I have very mixed feelings about it.

Freedom Tax, as all inheritance should be abolished

So I couldn't even bequeath my kid a book or an old family heirloom after my death?

The best, of course. Should be 100% after a certain level.

It adds another layer of bureaucracy and should be removed with increased income taxes on the rich making up for lost revenue.

Easily the most socially, economically and morally justified tax. It should be very high and very progressive.

So a doctor who works 70 hours/week should pay more in taxes, so Paris Hilton can pay less? That's insane.
Tax all inheritances as regular income for the inheritors and call it a day.

It's in all of society's interest to prevent a hereditary upper class from forming.

Massive freedom tax, proof that Republicans just want to establish a new class of idle rich and take us further back to the Gilded Age then we already are.

I oppose it on moral grounds, but the way it is now isn't so bad as long as the tax is kept at a reasonable level.

Why is it immoral?
Because an individual should have the right to pass on his already taxed income to his heirs.

What do you mean already taxed?  It's hard to trace money like that, it's like the water cycle.  At some point, that dollar was taxed 25 different ways on its journey to the rich kid.

And, they can pass their wealth to their heirs.  Just $5.3 million or whatever and a taxed amount above that.

It only affects estates over $5 million. Do you honestly think that those estates have been legitimately taxed? That they haven't cravenly avoided any and all taxes while living?

I have very mixed feelings about it.

Freedom Tax, as all inheritance should be abolished

So I couldn't even bequeath my kid a book or an old family heirloom after my death?

I suppose this is where the differences between the Marxist interpretation of the word 'property' and the generic meaning come into play...

Banning inheritance in a Marxist setting in practice would mean that when you die, your belongings would go to whoever needs them, not necessarily your children. Family heirlooms, like you mentioned, aren't likely to be useful to anyone outside of the family, so they would be given to your family

What if it's a valuable collectible that a poor person could find handy?
