General Election 2010 and Beyond

Brian Williams: Welcome back to the American Broadcasting System's coverage of the 2010 Federal Elections. With 33 seats in the Senate and the whole House of Commons up for elections, it's sure to get heated. Here's the current House makeup:

And as the clock strikes 10 PM, we can now release the results of our exit poll:

The exit poll shows a Hung Parliament with the Conservatives as the largest party. Will this stay true? We'll find out as the night goes on. Will Nancy Pelosi retain her position for another term? Will John Boehner regain 1651 Penn for the Tories? We'll find out, after these messages.

Williams: As a quick reminder, this has been a relatively quiet election season since Prime Minister Pelosi got a writ of election and dissolution of Parliament in April. The party leaders have debated each other twice, with a victory for Boehner in both, and three debates for the "Great  Offices" of Chancellor, Foreign, and Home. We'll show some clips tonight, but first, the traditional first constituency results from Concord and Sullivan and Manchester.

Daniel Bowden:  I, Daniel Gregory Bowden, the Acting Returning Officer for the Concord and Sullivan Constituency, hereby give notice that Ann McLane Kuster has been duly elected to the House of Commons for Concord and Sullivan Constituency.

James Ashcroft: I, James Bo Ashcroft, the Acting Returning Officer for the Manchester Constituency, hereby give notice that Francis Guinta has been duly elected to the House of Commons for Manchester Constituency.

Williams: With the first result of the night, we have a Liberal Hold and a Conservative Gain. New Hampshire Province is also holding a Senate election, where Provincial Justice Secretary Kelly Ayotte is facing off against former MH Paul Hodes to replace Senator Judd Gregg. Williams: We're back at the 12 AM EDT hour, the "halfway point" of the night. Most, if not all, of the seats in the East and Central time zones have declared or are in recounts. Here are some of tonights highlights.

Suzanne Hartman:  I, Suzanne Natalie Hartman, the Acting Returning Officer for the Springfield and Hamilton Constituency, hereby give notice that John Andrew Boehner has been duly elected to the House of Commons for Springfield and Hamilton Constituency.

Mary Cohen:  I, Mary Danielle Cohen, the Acting Returning Officer for the West Virginia South Constituency, hereby give notice that Evan Hollin Jenkins has been duly elected to the House of Commons for West Virginia South Constituency.

Doug Ramirez:  I, Douglas Stephen Ramirez, the Acting Returning Officer for the Bowie Constituency, hereby give notice that Steny Hamilton Hoyer has been duly elected to the House of Commons for Bowie Constituency.

Williams: There you have it, those highlights were Opposition Leader Boehner and Deputy Prime Minister Hoyer retaining their seats. Also included was the defeat of former Environment Secretary Nick Rahall by Provincial Assemblyman Evan Jenkins. Rahall has served in the House of Commons since the 1975 elections, making him the longest tenured incumbent to lose his seat. Here's where our parties stand at this point of the night.

Conservative Party: 184
Liberal Party: 106
Progressive Union: 22
National Party: 22

And the Liberal Party is taking a shellacking at the hands of the Conservative Party, however, Liberal and Progressive bastions such as California and the Pacific Northwest have not yet closed or declared.
