Meh. This was never law in the past when companies were proud to advertise their ties with organized labour. If they don't wish to advertise those ties now, I don't think it's our place to force them to. It's not like it's a health and safety concern for the consumer, so I'd err on the side of free speech. Unions need to find a way to win the PR war themselves. After all, this government is pretty much helping them win every other battle.

Not a big fan of this. It's minor, but I don't think we should waste government resources on something like this, especially since we live in a very union-friendly nation anyway.

This bill will make it easier for consumers to make informed decisions about how and where they spend their money.

Honestly, I don't think it is necessary.
What will change with posting a sign indicating that the employees of the workplace are union members? I don't like the idea and I don't think that people will buy or not the various products only because of union labor.

As has been mentioned here, if consumers somehow magically bought more products produced by Union labor, this label would be all over the place already. We don't need everything mandated by the Senate. This is something we can most of us agree on that is not really needed.

Well, I'm not opposed to this and I'm more likely than not to support this.. Not a big issue to be honest.

I support this. I see no reason not to make it easier for consumers to make informed purchasing decisions.

I guess I don't follow why people don't want information. I admit that IRL I read labels, especially in the grocery store. I want all the labels I can get, and I'll tell you that it's like the organic/GMO thing. I always purchase organic when it says "organic."

I'll support.

I don't see the real benefit, nor the harm. So I'm completely apathetic to this.

Since I don't really see a lot being done in terms of making this palatable to those who oppose it, I motion for a final vote.

Would this be okay for you, TNF? Not an amendment yet, just an idea. Leaves it to businesses themselves, but we state that we approve of it.

The Cranberry's idea is better than the original text, but it won't change so much for me in the final vote.
But still an improvement.

"Encourage" is too toothless. I'd rather this pass or fail on its own merits. Not enter into the books as a meaningless law.

Yes, I guess you are right about that. Forget my amendment, we can go on with the final vote if you want to.

A vote to end the debates is now open.  Please vote AYE, NAY, or Abstain.
