On domestic affairs, sure. But his foreign policy record, with the exception of the Berlin airlift, was quite horrible, and he started the precedent of unconstitutional "police actions" in foreign nations.

I think it's laughable to decide which set of foreign policy views is "progressive."

There's nothing inherently more liberal about being a dove than there is about being a hawk, and neither party acts differently from each other when it comes to foreign policy...

I'm wondering, since you probably know more history than I do, was criticism of the other party's foreign policy nonexistent before the 1980's or so? Is it relatively new?

Not really much difference between the two, actually. I mean, a pointless war is a pointless war.

Truman was far less eager than LBJ, and most of his other policies were decent enough. He could do something right.

LBJ literally screwed up everything on foreign policy or got screwed (Nixon campaign with South Vietnam in '68 is the one thing)

How was Korea a pointless war , the Soviet Union broke it's post war agreement and set up a communist North Korea which invaded South Korea and would have won without our help. I mean look at how good South Korea is today thriving economy, democracy which wouldnt have happened under the Kim Dynesty and South Korea would have looked like North Korea. For Vietnam it was different as it would never would have happened if we hadnt assainated Diem and forced South Vietnam to do everything the US says

South Korea as it was in 1950 did not deserve US support. Today, things are quite different.

i'm thinking in terms of foreign policy mostly when i say that. not that i buy the idea that kennedy was going to suddenly withdraw from iraq. but there are other areas to consider like laos and cuba that he actually did disagree with nixon and the military on.
