Hopefully, Heineman will shift his efforts to defeating Nelson now.

Of course. Now it's just up to Heineman to cooperate.

A new (and possibly the first poll) for this race shows that if the primary were held today, Heineman would be competitive. The poll was comissioned by Victory Enterprises:

Tom Osborne           48.8%
Dave Heineman       37.1%
Dave Nabity               4.3%

The same company did a poll for the senate primary which showed:

Don Stenberg          36.0%
Shane Osborn         21.0%
David Kramer            3.0%
Peter Ricketts           2.0%

I still cant believe he didnt run for senate.  I mean, take one for the team.  Run for senate... Win in a landslide... Run for governor 4 years later when Heineman leaves.

Of course, if Bush hadn't appointed Johanns Sec'y of Agriculture, we wouldn't have this problem.

One of the dumber moves (in my opinion) since Bentsen got appointed to the Treasury.  Nelson isn't bad...but still....

Or try to get Heineman to run for Senate.  It would probably be a tossup if he ran (strong lean GOP if Osborne would have run)
