With Tom Osborne running for Governor in the GOP primary, might Heineman gun for Nelson? I mean, that's not a particularly orthodox move and it kind of looks bad, but Osborne is no joke and losing in a GOP primary would not be good for Heineman's career (much worse than losing a Senate race, even).

edit: after looking around, this appears to be quite possible. Osborne is widely thought to be unbeatable, either in a primary or general election. Since he declared his candidacy for Governor, that leaves Heineman with two fairly bad options, the better of which is probably to run for Senate and hope he can associate Nelson with the national DNC enough to make the race GOTV-level close.
