Some of you may have heard that Boston's transit and commuter rail system fell apart during our record snowfalls.

Baker handled it as well as any governor could have. He acknowledged the problem early and often; he didn't make unreasonable claims about fixing it; he took control of the MBTA (fairly or not to Beverly Scott, the GM he booted); he declared himself open to different solutions; he announced a commission to study the problem and make recommendations; the commission actually came back with a report in reasonable time; he is now pursuing legislation to fix the MBTA.

Social issues are deader than a doornail. His LG, Karyn Polito, was a major anti-same-sex-marriage campaigner in the legislature who has ditched her positions and now officiates at gay weddings.

When Baker denies interest in federal politics or running for higher office as a Republican, he comes across as authentic. His personal style is modest but smart.

In a nutshell, he's the governor we thought we were getting when we elected Mitt Romney, but never did.

The main thing I disapprove of so far in his governorship is that godforsaken haircut...

Just checking... did you know he got the buzz cut for a cancer charity a few weeks ago?
