Baker is doing most things right to remain a popular moderate governor, but it's unlikely that numbers this good will hold up once the actually difficult decisions and fights--which are inevitable, even for somebody like Baker with a generally conciliatory personality--start happening. Even if the approvals don't go down much, the disapprovals will inevitably rise. Off the top of my head, entirely aside from the objections that the unions have to his transportation proposals, people involved in mental health and addiction care are starting to turn against him because of the effect that proposed budget cuts would have on the state's Recovery Learning Community system.
