The wikipedia link and your quote are talking about completely different things.

Yeah, I'd generally associate the term with what the NYT article describes - a cringeworthy right-on attempt to infantilise and coddle, rather than the Wiki link, which seems to be basically describing gay bars.

^pretty much the only reaction. It's basically the equivalent of forcing kids to call everyone in their class "friend," a horrible practice many schools in this once great country are participating in.

It won't be long before that's not true any more if the trend of politically correct campus activism continues.
