http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/courts_law/poll-gay-marriage-support-at-record-high/2015/04/22/f6548332-e92a-11e4-aae1-d642717d8afa_story.html

Highlights:
61% support, 35% oppose.

Compare this to 2005, when 58% opposed and only 39% supported.
For the Under-30 crowd, they went from 57% support in 2005 to 78% support today.
65+ers went from 18% support in 2005 to 46% support today.

Support has risen by double-digits among all partisan groups, but Democrats and Indies have shifted the most.
60% of GOPers oppose it, with 71% of self-identified conservative Republicans opposing.
Majorities of Democrats, Indies, and every age group under 65 support SSM.

61% oppose allowing states to prohibit SSM, and 62% say states should recognize SSMs registered in other states.

At least 40% "strongly" support SSM.

The Supreme Court is set to hear opening oral arguments on whether state restrictions on SSM are unconstitutional next week, with a decision expected in June.

Excellent News.  Nice to see at least couple of issues where Americans have become more progressive so rapidly (LGBT rights and marijuana).

I'm just wondering who that 1% is that thinks states should both recognize and prohibit SSM.

All demographic groups support it now except conservatives, republicans, and seniors.

This poll is an outlier - most pollsters find majority support or plurality support, but not this high.  I'm interested in seeing the methodology here.

Ethnic minorities tend to be opposed IIRC.

If you insist on using the Bible to guide you, then I'd suggest you stick to Jesus...cuz he's the only way out.  All other roads lead to Rome.

I remember seeing a poll showing Latinos were actually more supportive than whites.

It shifted significantly starting in 2012. Obama's endorsement likely moved a small but meaningful chunk of people and helped equality win in the Maryland referendum.

I recoil at the arrogance of heterosexual marital culture. They've gifted themselves many niceties out of the treasury, and now the common American pleb imagines that subjecting homosexuals to superfluous heterosexual regulations is an expansion of equity and privilege.

We need a system of rules that acknowledge the inherent economic and social rights of individuals, regardless of preferred relationship contract. It starts with the tax code and freedom of affiliation, not state-sponsored marriage for everyone.

For the record, support for interracial marriage didn't hit this mark until between 1994 and 1996.

It's 2015, guys. Is there still a legitimate argument against gay marriage?
