Martin O'Malley calls Marco Rubio's economic plan "patently bullsh**t" on NPR radio. He then refused to apologize.

It kind of makes sense he would know.
I've always used as a barometer when a candidate uses profanity in their position statements. It was that they were really announcing their exit -departure from the campaign. It is not unusual in the case of a democrat to do things backwards.

I've wondered if a profanity dropping candidate could be appealing these days. Cynical voters could see him as more honest.

It reminds me of one of KRudd's tricks. He was in some sort of scuffle with unions or business or some other group, and in the middle of an interview he 'accidentally blurted out' the phrase 'well then we'll have the usual political s***storm'. Needless to say the headlines the following morning were about the PM's 'slip of the tongue' and actual story was burried within the pages. Bam, he had turned a potential fumble into a humanising moment.

Granted, the U.S. has a different culture from the Australians (Puritan influence maybe?) so it could carry slightly more risk. Potentially though, a candidate using profanity will be be on par with the uniquitous 'the candidate takes off his blazer and rolls up his sleeves, revealing he doesn't play by the man's fashion diktats')

I won't be surprised if O'Malley goes full Schweitzer before this is over.

I don't think that he will. Schweitzer was always something of a wild card personality; I don't get that vibe from O'Malley.

Smart strategically also since he's after the Republicans and not just Hillary which is a better way of getting Democratic support.

That's all well and good, but he still was a disaster as Mayor of Baltimore

My thoughts exactly.  Presidential candidates should express their thoughts through normal English - not profanity.  If in a presidential debate someone said said something like "my opponent's reform plan is bull****" then people would be shocked - and rightfully so.

Martin O'Malley has all the relevance and desirability of John Ashbrook circa 1972.

I can't find the article on the website, but one use of the word 'bullsh-" is hardly 'profanity-laced'.

Even the MPAA famously allows movies to retain a PG-13 rating if it has only one swear.

I hope you aren't a math teacher!
