Universalist neo-jacksonite complemented with elitist proto-Trumanesque leanings, stemming from third-wave postmaterialist thought (normal)

I put "liberal" as the closest of the choices present although I'm social democratic/New Deal liberal in actual ideology.

I'm a registered Democrat though I don't really identify with the party. Consider myself a Socialist with a libertarian bent on some social issues. Basically the type of punk rock left-wing New Yorker that still thinks things like smoking bans and big gulp bans are ing ridiculous.

Independents can vote in this, no?  I've seen the same thing happen in the Republican thread.

I'm registered as a Democrat, I just prefer not to identify myself as one. It's only because New York doesn't have open primaries.

Old-left labor style. I suppose I'm progressive, but living in New England makes me much more focused on economic issues than social issues since I'm incubated from hardcore social cons. I also think we should be making an effort to stop being so cosmopolitan and let white working class voters and rural "outdoorsy" type people know we want to help them.

This does a good job of describing me too, except I don't live in NE.

I prefer the term liberal to progressive, although I view them as essentially the same in ideology.

So I would conider myself a liberal.

Only slight differences. Could be that liberal defines only a few things or progressive is more encompassing for left of center issues. Really it is a personal description issue. I know many Democrats that would prefer liberal but not progressive and vice versa - I wanted to make sure the poll included all the options.

Found this for ref http://www.huffingtonpost.com/david-sirota/whats-the-difference-betw_b_9140.html

I think the more accurate definition of Progressive is what upper-middle class urbanites think is "left wing" and liberalism is "what those people think."
