Let's say for the sake of argument equal rights for women here includes equal pay for equal work, access to birth control, and some form of the right to an abortion (could be only early in the pregnancy, etc.)

I wonder what the breakdown is for this.

Forced to vote Option 2 largely due to the abortion clause, in the literal sense of "equality" I obviously support full equity of the sexes.

Given the definitions above, no, I don't support child murder.

This is such a bizarre question. I mean, who's going to admit to not supporting equal rights for women.

I'm not a 'progressive' (I'm a communist), and as such, I support the liberation of women.

I support equal rights for women when it comes to things that I consider to be rights in the first place, which means I do not support "equal rights" according to this definition.

I am puzzled by the qualifier in the support options "& it is an indispensible issue". I suspect that it is possible to be distinctly for these things, but consider it a lower priority than a number of other issues.

This thread is a good example of a false dichotomy.

In the general sense, doesn't your description of "equal rights for women" imply that they'd be progressive in the first place? As such, this is a rather pointless poll, it seems.

Presumably Beet will reveal at the end we are all atrocious hypocrites for agreeing with the poll, but not supporting DWS.

Anybody who doesn't care about women's rights probably shouldn't call themselves a progressive.  This includes the sorts of people who say things like "I agree with equal rights and stuff, but do we even really need feminism anymore?"

I have always supported equal rights for women, including what is in this poll, so I suppose I vote for option 1.

It really is.

Mostly option 3 but not completely since I oppose abortion.
I think women's rights are definitely important and should be a priority and while a lot of progress has been made there still isnt full equality. Same being true with minority issues.

However I am pro life so I couldnt vote the option. None of the other options fit either. However in regards to the issue of abortion I think the community/state should do more to help pregnant women and single mothers. Financial issues should never have to be a reason someone gives up a child.

Maternity leave, access to birth control, equal pay, child care, etc are all things I support.

Pro-life, support equal rights.  As for the progressive part, you could probably call me a right-wing progressive, but I don't know whether I'd describe myself that way.

The idea that abortion is an equal rights issue is pretty hilarious. Without the abortion stipulation, I'd have gone with the first answer.

I guess I vote number 1?

I support equal rights for women, and I support a woman's right to choose an abortion, but these are two different things. I'm confused as to why you would characterize the right to an abortion as an "equal rights" issue.

I too also find the choice between "indispensable issue" and "don't support/ don't care" baffling.

My opinion of this poll is fairly low.

On second thought, I think this would be a good topic for political debate.

I've created a thread here.
