Yahoo has uploaded VA Sen. Chuck Robb's speech against DoMA in 1996 as part of a puff piece on him and his vote.

Good stuff.

Worked out well for him for his re-election.

Watching this speech makes me wonder how different Clinton's presidency would be if he vetoed DOMA.  He likely would have won the 1996 election (though he would probably be forced to actually campaign if the backlash is bad enough) but I wonder if his reputation at least among gay liberals and progressives would be much better than it has been.

Food for thought.

I mean, obviously it would be better. It doesn't take much thought.

Of course, gay marriage wasn't really an issue back in 1996, it would be like Obama signing an anti-polygamy bill or something.

Joke's on you, Virginia now has two Democratic senators who both support SSM.
