Thats great that the Economist endorsed Labour. I might get a subscription to them now. (Would have sooner but its like $100 a year or something obscene like that).

By the way, am I right to think of The Guardian as a British New York Times, meaning a non-tabloid serious paper with a left wing editorial page? Is it as respected as the Times?

This reminds me of a quotation from Yes, Prime Minister:

"Don't tell me about the press. I know exactly who reads the papers:
The Daily Mirror is read by people who think they run the country;
The Guardian is read by people who think they ought to run the country;
The Times is read by people who actually do run the country;
The Daily Mail is read by the wives of the people who run the country;
The Financial Times is read by people who own the country;
The Morning Star is read by people who think the country ought to be run by another country;
And the Daily Telegraph is read by people who think it is.
[...]
Sun readers don't care who runs the country, as long as she's got big tits."

Today,

1) The Financial Times has endorsed Labour but says they must to do more to ease concern about tax and spend
2) The Guardian has endorsed Labour, quote: "... voters should use their heads-and-hearts to re-elect Labour with an increased Liberal Democrat presence"
3) The Times has endorsed Labour, quote: "The best result for Britain would be a smaller but viable Labour majority and a renewed Tory oppostion"

I prefer this endorsement - it's funnier. (From some guy posting on some website, quoted in the Indy):
"Now is the time to be pragmatic and to vote  - and pray - for a hung Parliament."
