Just a little survey so we can all get to know each other. You don't have to answer all the questions, just have some fun. Smiley

1. What's your name?
2. Where do you live?
3. What's your political affiliation (Rep, Dem, Ind)?
4. Who's your favourite President of all-time?
5. Who's your favourite international leader of all-time?
6. How did you get interested in politics?
7. How did you discover this forum?
8. What do you like most about it?
9. What are your other interests, apart from politics?
10. What's your favourite movie?
11. What's your favourite song?

1. Michael Zeigermann
2. London, England
3. Centre-left (US: Democrat, UK: Labour or Lib Dem).
4. Franklin D Roosevelt
5. Willy Brandt
6. Political events in Europe during the late 1980s: the fall of the Berlin Wall, the collapse of the Soviet Union, the fall of communism. Also, the release of Nelson Mandela.
7. Google.
8. The generally good-natured, well-mannered and interesting discussions we have. It's very rare that a politics forum is as civilised as this.
9. Football (soccer), films, music, good food, travel, East-Asian culture (especially Japan).
10. Blade Runner, 2001, Seven Samurai, Lord Of The Rings trilogy.
11. David Bowie - Ashes To Ashes. I also like most 60s music.
12. I lived in Chicago for roughly half a year (great city!). I've also lived in Germany and Holland. Oh yeah, and I'm an avid Arsenal supporter. GO GOONERS!

Dang, they're onto me. Wink

9. Any PC games with the Europa Universalis engine, other favorite games are FF7 and Ocarina of Time.

FF7 is easily my favourite game of all-time! Smiley Probably the first game which really blew me away. Ah, memories...

I'm only 22, so this is a very statistically young board.

I'm 24, which is probably the average age around here... I'm surprised Realpolitik and M are under 20.

Wasn't Churchill half-American?

I love counter-factual histories! (political thrillers too, but that's not as unusual and hence less interesting.)

For a combination of both, I recommend Fatherland by Robert Harris. An excellent counterfactual thriller, in case you haven't read it already.

Unfortunately, I haven't read Archangel. What's it about?

An American or British (I can't remember which right now) historian is visiting Russia in the 90s, and hears about Stalin's notebook. He starts searching for it, but is rivaled by die-hard stalinists. Something very unexpected then develops, reavealing dark secrets...

Sounds interesting, I think I'll check it out. Thanks. Smiley

Well, I'll admit I'm the same. I have one book which I borrowed from somebody circa 1996. And there are still some CDs lying around which I borrowed from an ex-girlfriend (not that I have any intention of returning them Wink).

Hello and welcome to the forum, Dean. Smiley I agree, Dr. Strangelove is a great film.

You never heard...  "Cat scratch fever..." ?

Ah, my favourite Ted Nugent song. Like Angus said, brings to mind mullets and Alabama at sundown. Well, something like that. I'm paraphrasing. Anyway, I've heard of all the stuff you mentioned - never had much time for Queen, to be honest, but then I'm more into punk rock as far as 70s music is concerned... and how anyone could have lived through the 80s and never hear of Iron Maiden is simply beyond me...... (pelts tomatoes at Boss Tweed.)
