I don't know if anyone has posted this informative video before, but it's such an instructive clip that it wouldn't be wrong to post it twice:

Rachel Maddow explains how the GOP successfully tried to take control of U.S. politics by investing millions of dollars in down-ballot races and thus implementing Republican-friendly gerrymandering.
As instances for 2010 she adduced the Republican take-over of Alabama for the first time since Reconstruction, the unexpected defeat of Wisconsin Senate Majority Leader Russ Decker and the Republican tsunami that swept across the Michigan House of Representatives.
That plan for controlling federal politics via conquering state legislatures is call "Operation Red Map" and was invented by the Republican State Leadership Committee.
Maddow was also conducting an interview with its former president, Chris Jankowski.

One statement of hers truly reminds me of Atlas:

"Anyone with good voting data and free rein to redraw the maps can redraw the maps to basically guarantee whether the person who will get elected from that district will be a Democrat or a Republican."  Smiley

I remember in 2010 when people said complete GOP control in Michigan was impossible because the Democrats had such a large majority in the MI House of Representatives.
