The first amendment is to extend the legality of equality to all citizens in our region - and to ensure that no-one can be discriminated against for any reasonable reason.

The second amendment I've made is to ensure that all of our citizens are entitled to free health care. No-one should be turned away in their hour of need purely because they can't afford to pay for treatments or operations.

Please remember that under the SOAP, the sponsor is required to formalize a statement about why the change is being made, which will be put in a post on the Atlasian Fantasy Elections Board before the vote.  That explanation is subject to debate, but is solely within the control of the Sponsor.  Any other Assemblyman can propose a statement in opposition to be put in the same thread, subject to the same debate rules.

The SOAP on the wiki has not been updated to reflect these new rules, but you can see them here.

Free healthcare sounds like a great idea in principle, but I'm not sure how we're going to pay for it. We've already spent about a third of our surplus, and I'd rather not put every single accomplishment we have on a credit card. We have a rail act - which is (IIRC) set aside for a lockbox, but I'm fairly sure it's going to cost more than $9 billion to give everyone free healthcare.

I know I've been out of the NE loop for a few months, but don't we already cover most healthcare free already?

I like both amendments, but I'm a little worried about the aplicability of the second one. I was expecting to legislate on health care in a way that this could be aplicable, but how do we do this as the amendment passes? Maybe I should hurry up Tongue

I thought we did, and if we do then this is achievable I feel. My reasoning behind my proposed amendment was that the constitution will ensure that the free healthcare can't be taken away without the support of the voters.

However, if we don't have free healthcare, then it might be less achievable right now.

Well, there is that, but I thought there were bills already where the NE also covers a lot of medical cost care. I could be wrong.

I thought Atlasia already had a fairly comprehensive healthcare system in place or at least it seems as if something about universal healthcare had come up during Duke's Presidency.

Again, a statement of the reasons for the proposed Amendment needs to be offered by the sponsor and debated, and any Northeast Representative in opposition can draft a statement in opposition to be debated.  That is the new law on proposed constitutional amendments.

Rep. Clyde has already made the case for this.

Rep. Clyde has already made the case for this.

He hasn't stated so, and even if he does, that is subject to debate on the floor concurrent with the proposed Amendment.

Assuming we can afford free health care - Aye.

If it's a nay - I'm happy to proceed with only the first part of the amendment - if everyone is happy with that.

Abstain

It is a terrific idea, but immediate applicability is very necessary for Constitutional Amendments.

Nay- I like the idea in theory, but I'd really want to know the viability of free health care and how much that agrees with federal law.

Boy, I hate to do it, but since I don't have all of the information that I need for this, I have to vote:

Nay.

I'd like us to revisit this if we can get the information we need though.

Nay

With all 5 members having voted, time for voting has ended.

With 3 Nays, 1 Aye, and 1 Abstention the amendment fails.
