Sad to say, but I've pretty much abandoned the sinking Christie boat.  I've jumped to the Rand Paul ship.  Sad.  Very sad.

I don't know if we should underestimate Christie. He's a street brawler. The Republicans are angry, and I don't know if they'll nominate someone who doesn't attack. Christie doesn't play.

I doubt they'll land a glove on him, but he's still done. Damaged goods.

Christie is despised among the Republican primary electorate. And I'm pretty sure his donors have moved on to more viable alternatives.

It is kind of amazing. 18 months ago who would believe that Christie would not be a Romney-like (or stronger) establishment frontrunner with buckets of cash, and looking like a strong general election candidate? The irony is that he was undone by his own political operation pushing so hard to get Democratic mayor endorsements for his 2013 run to show how well he can do in blue-states in 2016. Hoisted by his own petard.

I guess the one bright spot for Christie was that everyone was so focused on Baltimore today, this mostly went unnoticed. He should send  Marilyn Mosby a dozen roses.

I knew Christie was done the moment Rachel Maddow started reporting on the George Washington Bridge lane closures.

Well, goodbye Christie. It would have been interesting to watch Christie and Clinton go toe to toe, but obviously that is not going to happen now.

This is the nail in the coffin.

Even people who like him aren't going to be comfortable backing him with the possibility that something new is around the corner.

His best bet is to announce that he's not running, and to finish his tenure as Governor quietly and competently. He can try again in 2020 or 2024. The candidacies of Gingrich and Jeb Bush have demonstrated that guys with high name recognition can wait some time after their last bid for public office to run for President.

Not sure Newt Gingrich should be counted in that data set.  He didn't do all that well when he ran in 2012.  Jeb Bush remains to be seen just how viable of a candidate he will actually be.  The polls say he should, but you just never know until he formally enters the race.

But the Republicans only have 20 other choices for President.

I think the GOP will be okay.  The bus that the Muppets loaned the GOP has a seating capacity limit.

Well, in case there was still any doubt, it's pretty clear now: Christie's done.

That was my thinking for a long time as well. Even after this whole thing first blew up, I thought he was still viable as long he wasn't directly implicated. Granted, Christie still hasn't been, but the fact that a can of worms has been opened into other things, this doesn't seem like it'll have a clean cut ending. Which is probably what he needed to still be viable.

Sad to say, but I've pretty much abandoned the sinking Christie boat.  I've jumped to the Rand Paul ship.  Sad.  Very sad.

Time for me to officially take off my Rand Paul banner.

Gingrich ran a bad campaign, and still won South Carolina.
