Let's hope Cuomo is next.

http://www.nytimes.com/2015/05/02/nyregion/dean-skelos-new-york-senate-leader-and-his-son-are-said-to-face-arrest-next-week.html?_r=1

Dean G. Skelos, the leader of the New York State Senate, and his son are expected to be arrested on federal corruption charges next week, according to people with knowledge of the matter.

The expected arrests, coming roughly three months after federal bribery and kickback charges led Assemblyman Sheldon Silver to step down as speaker, would signal an extension of the investigation into allegations of political corruption in Albany, and would almost certainly further upend the legislative session.

It is not known if Mr. Skelos, a Republican from Long Island who was first elected to the Senate in 1984, will resign his leadership post as did Mr. Silver, a Manhattan Democrat, but he is sure to face questions about his ability to lead the chamber in light of his expected arrest.

The charges against Senator Skelos, 67, and his son, Adam, 32, are expected to be detailed in a criminal complaint and are likely to include conspiracy, extortion and solicitation of bribes, one of the people said. The charges could be announced as early as Monday.

It seems there has been equal opportunity corruption in New York.

Maybe we should let Obama/Hillary/Whichever Republican wins in 2016 rule New York by decree... It can't be any worse...

Something smells in NY -- and it's bipartisan. Sad for my home state.

I'm not sure I can remember a time an Assembly Speaker and Senate Leader fell from grace in a given state at basically the same time.  Way to choose leaders

Very sad. New York needs to be aware of who they elect.

New York is literally competing with Illinois for most corrupt politicians in the country.

New York might be winning, tbh.

Something like 4 of the last 4 Majority leaders in the state senate have been arrested (Joe Bruno, Malcolm Smith, and Pedro Espada Jr have all been arrested/charged or convicted, while Skelos obvs will be getting arrested next week)

We don't. I mean we all know the person we will elect will be Italian and probably connected to the Italian Mob.

right-wing blogs are speculating that Sheldon Silver "gave Skelos up" to prosecutors.  makes sense, but no actual evidence so far.

New York is where the parties are all made up and the laws don't matter.

The man who first institutionalized that culture hails from just up the road from Hudson in beautiful downtown Kinderhook,  and actually practiced law in Hudson for a bit, and got married right across the river in Catskill.

Good for Silver if that's the case.

even if it ultimately is good that a by definition corrupt politician is outed, I don't think Silver is in a place where he deserves congratulations.  he's not doing it out of virtue, but out of self-preservation.  it's an amoral act.

Skelos will step down as Majority Leader.

John Flanagan (R-Smithtown) was chosen as the new Majority Leader.

Martin Van Buren?

Very good! Smiley  And that is where there now more universally known "word" other than the F word across the planet comes from too. Van Buren was referred to as "Old Kinderhook," and his crowds for short in support of him used to short OK, as in approval. The meaning morphed a bit into its now more universal meaning of assent, and/or approval.
