New York is where the parties are all made up and the laws don't matter.
The man who first institutionalized that culture hails from just up the road from Hudson in beautiful downtown Kinderhook, and actually practiced law in Hudson for a bit, and got married right across the river in Catskill.
Martin Van Buren?
Very good! And that is where there now more universally known "word" other than the F word across the planet comes from too. Van Buren was referred to as "Old Kinderhook," and his crowds for short in support of him used to short OK, as in approval. The meaning morphed a bit into its now more universal meaning of assent, and/or approval.
That explanation isn't quite
oll korrect. While the Van Buren campaign helped to spread and popularize OK, it isn't the origin of the phrase.
