In a couple of hours, I will officially be 27 years old, and forced to start referring to myself as "in my late twenties." To add insult to injury, I have nothing to do on my birthday. As I grow older, I've begun to realize that I've led a relatively sheltered life and generally stayed within my comfort zone. At times I've aimed too low, missed shots by not taking them, and generally committed more sins of omission than of commission. And so, I'm compiling a list of things I would like to complete within the next year. I will make note of when these things are accomplished and, if they are not, why. This will be my small contribution to the over-sharing vacuum left by the demise of Update.

The list as it stands...

[  ] Get a new job.

[  ] Gain 15 pounds. (Not by eating Braum's every day.)

[  ] Go on at least one date.

I welcome any and all suggestions for things to add.

Happy birthday! Those seem like pretty achievable goals.

• become gainfully employed by an upstanding call center (preferably contracted by at&t since a wise reverend has informed me they love to throw money around)

• smoke lots of marijuana (this will help you gain those 15 lbs. since you will wake up in a taco bell 4 days a week)

• bathe yourself in axe body spray daily (this will get you that date in no time, have you seen those guys on the commercial? they're just swimming in women!

• engage in corporate worship 2-3 times a week (getting close with god will help you in your goals)

• join the navy (a lot of bros can help you pickup chicks I hear)

•join a frat (great way to build social life, and get some tips on
girls that you seem to want to know about.

How are your finances? You may want to set a goal to reduce debt, put so much into a 401k etc.

Also, is there a particular reason you want a new job?

No debt. I won't go into financial details, but I have enough savings to pay my bills for maybe six months, and my retirement savings is in the very low five figures.

I want something more challenging, that pays better and that I can make an actual career out of. Being the office b!tch (I'm sorry, "litigation support") at a struggling law firm isn't really something I can do for the rest of my life. If I'm not employed somewhere else by the end of 2015, I may look into going back to school for something more "marketable" like accounting.

I'll assume this refers to something else then, because per that even if you were in the bottom 10% in terms of salary you'd still be quite well off, (though it might be the "Specialist" part that's key.)

You could get a doctorate in anthropology or something like that. Fine and admirable goals, all, so far. I'm looking to advance myself as well in the coming year. Best of luck to you.

Yeah, I put it in quotation marks because that's just the term they use but for purposes of what we do it ends up being this nightmarish hodgepodge of doing the work of a paralegal, an administrative assistant and a helpdesk.
