This is old news, and we've already talked about it in the Tea Leaves thread, but I figured we should have a separate thread on it, since it's coming up on Monday.

So yeah, technically "we don't know" what he's going to announce.  But in reality, we do know.  Again, as explained in the Tea Leaves thread, he's already announced plans to go straight from Detroit to Iowa.  After doing some events in Iowa, he's going to immediately head to South Carolina:

https://uselectionatlas.org/FORUM/index.php?topic=204564.msg4576321#msg4576321

So gee, I wonder which way he's going to go in his announcement in Detroit on Monday.  Announcing that you do *not* intend to run for president, and then immediately thereafter campaigning in Iowa and South Carolina is perfectly normal behavior, right?

EDIT: He announced his candidacy a day earlier than expected:

What does he have to lose by running?

If he didn't … it would be less media time given to Dr. Whateverhisname.

Oh dear God, this is going to be fun. Not only will we have Carson, but it sounds like Fiorina is in as well. This will be better than 2012.

This guy is a joke. The only reason he is considered a serious candidate by some is his skin color. Carson supports the same Reagan/Bush policies that have destroyed the Black community and Republicans put him up in order to show that they're not racist. That's the only reason, don't be fooled by him, guys. Carson wouldn't even win 10% of the Black vote and lose to Hillary in a landslide.

The more the merrier, especially in the case of Carson. He can hardly form a coherent sentence about foreign or domestic policy.

Honestly to people support him before hearing him speak, or is it like the cult of personality surrounding Clinton where total incoherence actually is preferred for chief executive?

I checked the stats and thats not really what happened.

Under reagan the black employment to population rebounded from the 1979-1982 recession.

https://research.stlouisfed.org/fred2/series/LNS12300006

And was this due to new jobs?

Yes

https://research.stlouisfed.org/fred2/series/LNS12000006

18 million jobs were created under reagan in 8 years.

10 million jobs under carter in 4 years.

However Carter's peak of black job creation(from jan 1976 to before the 1980 recession) was 1.1 million. And under Reagan it was 2.8 million jobs for blacks. So blacks under reagan actually gained more jobs in one term of reagan than they did under carter. Tongue

I did not expect the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis to make a cameo in this thread.

Sorry but they had the data for it and i just had to check since around progressive blogs i've heard this claim about "blacks being destroyed by reagan's policies" and didn't bother to check until now.

Uh, Hydera, your graph indicated Reagan created 2 million new black jobs.

pretty sure its around 2.6-2.8.  If you check the link you can actually stretch the data according to the time period you want.

I think the most striking thing that those graphs show is that all the gains made in black employment the the last decades of the 20th Century were erased during the Bush years.

Hey it declined for everybody too!!!

Sorry for the graphs

But There were more jobs in existence in October of 1999 than there was in January of 2010.

My oh my there IS a God! I just may actually have to turn on Faux Noise this election season to watch the clown show that is shaping up to be the Republican primary.

Democrats should pull the Claire McCaskill playbook and really try to Akinize this guy.

it could be that his moment is over. In the last two months he has dropped quite a bit in the polls as others have got more serious, especially Cruz. Maybe he will get a big announcement bump, but then Huckabee is going to announce this week too. The evangelicals have so much choice this election, why choose a guy who has never held office?
