He's the Republican that scares me the most, but also the one that I could probably tolerate the most.

Is the entrance of Kasich and Snyder into the race a concerted effort on behalf mainstream, liberal Republicans to dilute Scott Walker's base and help Jeb?

Doesn't this hurt Jeb more? Walker is most popular among Republicans that identify as very conservative. Kasich is a RINO.

He'd be dangerous I think. Hopefully Jeb/Walker/Rubio keep him boxed out.

kWell, he's not nearly as conservative as the likes of Rubio or Walker, which makes him more palatable, but also more of a threat in the general election. While I think the home state effect is often exaggerated, the small boost he could get in Ohio could prove to be critical, considering how close Ohio usually is.

He's a northern version of Dubya, he doesn't have the baggage that a lot of the other GOPers have (both of which would help him), but I'm not sure that he has the charisma or the star power or the pedigree. Winning the GOP nomination would be uphill, but if he could do that, he would be threatening.

Walker is hailed nationally as a union buster, he survived a recall, won close state wide elections in a lean Democratic state, I'm sure a lot of people have heard of him, and I'm kind of surprised that he hasn't emerged as the guy for the GOP. Bush is purely name only at this point. Kasich could shake this up a bit.

He's a weak candidate who may not make it to Iowa.  He'd also get crushed in the GE if he somehow got nominated, btw.

I doubt he's going to make any noise. He's not going to stand out in the crowd.

I really don't see how one can conclude this.  Kasich can actually help the GOP expand the map, and his breadth and depth of experience are surprising.  He's not the perfect candidate, but there's little or no reason he should not be acceptable to the whole of the GOP.

I fail to see a single Romney state Kasich would lose against any Democrat.  He might well win Ohio, and he may well add Florida to this list.  It gets tougher after that, but under the right circumstances, VA, NH, and IA are all possible for him.  He wouldn't be a favorite, but the GOP primary race is VERY fluid and Republicans are open to voting for a guy who's not all they'd want, but who really is electable.  Kasich fills that bill far more than Mitt Romney did in 2012.

I had a feeling this would happen.

Aside from Kasich's small hints he gave before (shifting his statements on a Presidential run, his meetings with old Presidential campaign advisers, visits to SC, etc.), there's also the fact that Rob Portman declined a Presidential run faster than anyone else.

I could see him getting Christie's endorsement (not that his endorsement matters anymore), but he won't make it out of the primary. History will repeat itself against yet another Bush for Kasich (he ran a short-lived campaign against Dubya in 1999), and simply put, Kasich's "compassionate conservatism" message won't work for him when Jeb and his massive list of donors is already running on that. He obviously can't win far-right conservative voters either since they'll go to Walker.

If he did miraculously make it to the general though, Hillary would be favored against him. He's a horrible speaker, there's nothing "thrilling" about him, and aside from Medicaid expansion, he's actually a pretty conservative, turn-off of a governor/candidate (just look at the budget he proposed for FY 2015-2016, for example).

If Kasich were to make it to the general, then Hillary should really appoint Ed FitzGerald to some sort of assistant secretary position to the cabinet. Cheesy

Seriously, though, LeBron's above assessment seams accurate.

He has a legitimate shot at making progress in the primaries.  He may not win the nomination, but I think he could hang around until after Super Tuesday.  Democrats would do well not to dismiss every Republican challenger as clowns who have no chance.  Hillary does not have this election under lock and key.  The Republicans have an equal chance as she to win the presidency.  Kasich should make the Democrats sweat a little bit.  I have a feeling the deeper he goes into the primary, the more dangerous he will be.

I think that this will hurt the eventual nominee.
