Oops. Bet that wasn't the headline the NYT wanted to write.

Obviously. Like any freedom-loving American they should be brown-nosing patriots like the Koch brothers and Sheldon Adelson instead of wasting their time with such nonsense.

I can practically taste the NYT's tears from the somber tone of this article.

The poll also shows Benghazi didn't take in the end. Her approval rating as Secretary of State is still 50-38.

68-29 of Americans also want illegal immigrants to stay, 57-40 want citizenship for them
57-36 want same sex marriage
52-35 say experience matters more than fresh ideas

52-39 say Hillary shares their values

Which is yet another poll that begs the question, what issue can the Republicans run on to beat Hillary with in the general?

29% support trying to round up 11 million people and put them in some giant Mexican concentration camp? Scary.

Seems like alot of the positivity from Hillary certainly comes from the Democrats. Gotta give them credit at how they coalesce around candidates fast. IE Obama summer 2008, Kerry spring 2004.

If 68% of the country supports letting illegals stay, I'm ready to self-deport.

Well, pretty fast.  The candidate who won the popular vote was overturned by superdelegates. The Republicans could never survive a divisive primary like that.

I should start a gofundme to purchase a one way plane ticket the the right-wing autocracy of your choice. I think the rest of Atlas would be very generous.

The fact is that rounding them up and deporting them, even if it's a good idea, is uttrerly impractical. Making them so miserable that they self deport just doesn't make sense and is immoral in many cases. Let them get green cards, and after a long process, citizenship, there's no harm in letting them become productive, law abiding members of society. Sending them back to their possibly dangerous home country for part of the process doesn't mean anything positive for the United States, except for a meaningless we followed the law badge that I don't care about.

The economic collapse and Palin helped.

I'm for the concept of self deportation mainly because giving them reasons to stay = de facto amnesty.  If we have to increase our country's population by 12m, for whatever reason, fine, but do not reward their behavior with citizenship. It's not fair to those who played by the rules.

They'd still have to go to the back of the line in terms of getting citizenship, so no disadvantage to legal immigrants exists. Any immigrant, legal or illegal, who applies before they do, would be approved or rejected before them. No leapfrogging exists. The only difference is they'd be going through the process while living here as opposed to beginning it while living in their home country.
