I have always been a strong proponent of regions, and the powers of government being vested in the regions. I feel that this bill crafts the Northeastern identity into something more tangible. When someone goes to eat an apple, they'll think of the Northeast. When someone goes to pet a Boston Terrie, they'll think of the Northeast. I see only positive impacts from this bill.

There is a Northeast outside of Boston Tongue

What about Pittsburgh?! I don't live in Boston or New England for that matter. What about the Mid-Atlantic states? This is heavily unbalanced in favor of Boston and New England. Opposed.

Are you willing to amend this bill to include some of the other cities in this region?

I love the idea behind this bill, as I'm a very strong regionalist myself too, but you should definitely try to add some other parts of the region, as many of our colleagues are suggesting. Smiley

Two proposals added for Pittsburgh and one for Philly. I'd like to see a few other things added for other cities in states like New York and New Jersey. But I'm only familiar with the cultural traditions of my own hometown and not with those other cities (I don't know much about Philadelphia either, but they certainly deserved something too so why not their best sandwich?).

Hopefully others can chime in.

I support Dr. Cynic's amendment, and would also love to include blueberry pancakes as official dessert.

I'll accept Cynic's amendment as friendly. To the idea of New York, apples are known major commercial crop for the state.

However - I feel that blueberry pancakes are much more of a breakfast than a dessert. I will amend the bill to reflect that idea.

I'm still not entirely sure why there's a need to change the motto. Replacing a motto that's been established for 10 years and is relatively uncontroversial seems kind of arbitrary, to be honest.

I don't know if it should be incorporated in this Act since there is a list of official Northest things, or it could be just a reminder, hockey is the official Northeast sport.

As there is already a bill making it so, and this bill doesn't repeal that one, I do not think it needs to be added.

Time for debate has ended. We will now move to a 48 hour vote.

Well, Governor Sawx did bring some issues to it, but overall this is good.

With 4 Ayes and 1 member not voting, this bill passes and will be sent to the Governor for his decision.
