Well, I wasn't really paying attention to politics until 2000 (when I was ten). So of those I lived through, it would be 2004 easily. Of all time, probably 1972. Though I guess if I lived back then, I would have had the months leading up to the election to come to peace with Nixon's victory. 2004 sucked because I legitimately believed that Kerry could/would win beforehand.

Probably 2014. I wasn't cognizant of politics in 2004, and I saw 2010 coming from a mile away and already braced for it (Dems even outperformed my expectations.) I expected 2014 to be a good Republican year, but not the utter ass kicking it ended up being.

2004, I was in tears and assumed that Bush was going to establish a military dictatorship in his second term.

2004. Even though I was young I cried. Also, 2014 was rough because of all the campaign work I did, so things were especially disappointing...

Easily 2004, but 2002 was a rather close second.

2004 made me question whether or not I even wanted to be in this country any longer. My depression lasted at least a week.

2014 I could see coming a mile away and wasn't really phased. The one big disappointment was Udall losing, since we lost one of the few decent civil libertarians in the senate. 2006 was bittersweet since the candidate I was working for lost but Dems won nationally.

Of the ones I seriously followed, 2014. At least 2010 had the consolation of keeping the Senate.

1994, 2004, 2010, and 2014 were truly awful on election night.
The following month for 2000 was a truly tragic tale of how they can steal an election in broad daylight.

Since 1968? 1980 has to be it IMO.

2014 was bad, though, as opposed to 2010 where everyone saw it coming. Too many races that were supposed to be competitive and just weren't in the end.

2004 election. I was a teenager, so I took the loss harder than I should've. Didn't help many of the students and even teachers at my high school supported Bush.

2014 midterms are a close second. Even though I expected the Republicans to perform well, no one could've predicted the complete rout that happened.

Only two elections can really apply for me, 2012 and 2014. So I vote 2014. And unlike most nights I didn't see the carnage coming.

All-time, probs 1980.

I wasn't old enough to vote in 2004, but it was the first election I really followed closely from the start. It was absolutely and completely crushing. I avoided TV news for weeks after. As bad as the 2010 and 2014 midterms were, at least Democrats held power in some form. After 2004, it was complete and total Republican dominance. It was the most hopeless I'd ever felt after an election.
