My favorite historical game hands down.

For those unaware, EU4 is a grand strategy simulation from 1444 (Ottoman victory at Varna) to 1821 (death of Napoleon) where you can control essentially any country in the world in an open ended (admittedly complex) game.

The game is produced by Paradox Interactive who have made similar titles like Crusader Kings, Hearts of Iron, and Victoria.

I own it but don't play much of it. I'm more of a Crusader Kings 2 man.

This, though I'm a fan of Vicky 2 as well.

Paradox Interactive is probably the best game studio on the planet.Citation needed.

Somehow I keep playing EU3 instead of EU4, I had a pretty productive game a few weeks ago as Aragon (conquering Italy, a good part of Castille and almost all of America (save from some areas in the North). If I find the time I might as well start a game with Burgundy before Louis XI drove it to its decline.

I tend to agree with this although my PC gaming experience is somewhat limited. It feels that they cater to people who are interested in actually immersing themselves in the game even if they sacrifice graphics and an easy learning curve for an overall better product.

Love it! I haven't played it in a while since I've run out of ideas. Any suggestions for my next game?

Yes I own the game. I haven't had the time to play it lately.

My favourite moment ever was when I was uniting the Netherlands as Friesland. Burgundy was about to invade me, and they would have wiped my army out instantly. But about 10 days before they could reach me, I got a massive rebellion pop-up. I strategically withdrew my army and let Burgundy park their stack on my territory. Then I click the pop-up and the rebels are unleashed upon my enemy. Their pyrrhic victory results in their forces cut in half and low morale. I swoop in right and destroy them.

I doubled my land area, defeating a power with 3x my army size. That je maintiendrai achievement felt good.

Just finished Bengal Tiger --> Sun never sets on the Indian Empire...great fun. Very rewarding to take out London as Hindustan.

Classic tactic, love it. Another good one is to send your missionary to high revolt risk provinces that are under siege and trigger a religious rebellion onto enemy siege stacks.

I would argue Vicky 2 is the best Paradox game released to this day. So much fun Tongue

Vicky 2 > all but EU3/4 and CK2 are all excellent as well.

If we have a lot of players here we should have a big forum multiplayer match, that'd be awesome

I could set it up quite easily. Usually in the other EU4 multiplayers i'm in we play 1 time a week for 3-4 hours.

Would anyone be interested in such a commitment, we would play the 1444 start and could use teamspeak as well.

I've been playing a great game as Byzantium over the last few months. Finnally managed to conquer Turkey, though my entire nation is 40% controlled by Islamic rebel zealots. I'll wipe them out next time I play, I guess.

EU3 or 4? Did you have to cheat or use gamey tactics to beat the Ottomans?

EUIII; I picked the Ottomans off province by province and used revolts to my favor, but I didn't cheat in any particular way. I lost several provinces to the rebels, who defected to a few neighboring states. I'm still trying to clean the mess up. I obviously bit off more than I could chew.
