Maybe in another 50 years the Liberal Democrats under a new name can make another bid for relevance, only to go into coalition with the Tories again.

Maybe they could go back to being the Liberals... no, even better - bring back the SDP!

Suggestions that Galloway might be struggling in Bradford West.
GOOD. He deserves it.

Swindon North:
50% Conservative
28% Labour
15% UKIP
3% Green
3% Lib Dem (slightly behind Green)

2010 results:
45% Conservative
31% Labour
17% Lib Dem
4% UKIP
3% BNP
1% Green

Looks like UKIP would have mopped up some of the 2010 Lib Dem protest voters in N Swindon, by which I mean "I'm voting Lib Dem/UKIP because they're not Labour or the Tories".

Lib Dems hold first deposit (and obtain first third place) at Putney.

Greens and UKIP missed out on holding deposits by 0.2% and 0.4% respectively.

Lib Dems are getting slaughtered everywhere.

I'm starting to wonder if Clegg will actually hold his seat...

Liberal Democrats lost 22.2% in Newcastle Upon Tyne East.

Still held their deposit, Tories gained 1.5% here as well.

Tories have just gained Vale of Clwyd from Labour.

Edit: there's a recount going on.

Fingers crossed!

Also, SNP have gained East Dunbartonshire and Midlothian.

If Clegg loses, who will be LD leader? Who will want to?

The real question is: Who will be LEFT to lead the Lib Dems?

Tories have held Hastings & Rye, and I'm not sure if anyone mentioned this earlier, but UKIP won almost 30% in Dagenham & Rainham, which borders the yet-to-be-declared Thurrock.

Tories hold Thurrock, UKIP in third place.

Carswell may well be UKIP's only MP.

This comes as a shock, given both the wafer-thin Tory majority, and UKIP's strong performance in both Dagenham & Rainham and South Basildon & East Thurrock.

Now that's a shock, I thought he had a good personal following?

Lib Dems have held Southport, although lost Eastbourne.
