'Conservative' has different meanings on either side of the pond. About the only feasible thing you can say is the Republicans are more US-style conservative, while Kippers embody British conservatism better.

There are a lot of UKIPers that are borderline socialists.

You know the type. Working class man who's fallen behind economically and who feels Labour sold out, so he votes on immigration issues. The type is fairly standard and exists among most populist right parties.

That's a good chunk of Republicans too. Especially in this neck of the woods, because they don't know any better.
