Well, brace yourselves... I really hope Corbyn surprises me and ends up leading Labour to victory (it's not impossible, many things can happen in 5 years). But the next couple years are probably going to be quite rocky.

Funnily enough the scale of the problem hit me hardest when I saw him on the news with the caption 'Labour leader'

Can someone get Tony Blair a strong drink, and perhaps a Conservative membership card?

Well he seemed pretty pissed with how far Brown moved the party to the left...

I honestly think that many in the party's establishment view a Corbyn victory as the least-worst outcome now, hoping that he will eff up to the extent that he can be replaced with Dan Jarvis or whoever a couple of years down the line.

Where does Jarvis stand in the party? Is he significantly to the right of someone like Burnham in his policies?

Jarvis is associated with the Right but many of his expressed views on economics/social policy are very left-wing.

May I just add that I am pleased as punch about the results-it is good news for the Tories, of course, but it is nice to see a person of principle win a victory and I have respect for people like Corbyn.

Seems like a pretty good backup plan, all things considered.

Here's something you might have forgotten about/not known about while on the subject of the war criminal.

Tony Blair used to have an Edinburgh inflected accent.

I have a little bit off topic question to the UK posters:

Is there any official reason why Labour Party changed its logo from that cool old one to the generic social democratic rose?

I mean from this one:

To the current.

Labour replaced the old Knife Fork and Spoon badge with the following logo for the 1983 election:

In full colour it was red with yellow writing.

That logo was then itself replaced by the rose as part of the intensive rebranding for the 1987 election (which marked a return to the style of electioneering preferred by Wilson to the more traditional approaches taken by Callaghan and Foot).

But Labour had sometimes used other symbols as well: in the Wilson era the Party often used a huge red-edged rosette with its name in the middle (black writing on a white background).

Fun thing about the old badge, of course, is that it made for a good badge. Take a close look at Walter Harrison's tie:

They are currently led by a crank with a funny voice who believes in the Healing Power of Prayer.

And someone who thinks gay sex is a sin, it's hilarious that David Cameron is more LGBT friendly than the leader of the Lib Dems.

This thread seems good for the next couple of days as Corbyn rolls out his team.

I've heard Angela Eagle is the establishment favourite for the Chancellorship, apart from being the most left wing canidiate in the deputy race (she did really well for someone of her stature) I know absolutely nothing about her

So any ideas on how the shadow cabinet is going to look like?

He's likely to try for a 'coalition' shadcab to the extent that he can, but beyond that I don't know... will be interesting and potentially quite telling.

I think both Plaid (though significantly altered and dropped) in the 30's and the SNP (1963) were the first parties to adopt a 'logo' that was universally adopted (and the SNP logo is still with us, even excusing the early 90's fascist thing) if I remember correctly.

Interestingly the 1983 Labour logo has in many ways is 'back' as more aesthetic. While the 1987 rose needed to be pruned a little it now looks like the logo for a phone app (that is expensive and doesn't work. I'm here all week...)

Competent and capable, been around for a while (1992 intake) but has never exactly looked for the limelight. Twin sister of Maria Eagle (MP for Garston & Halewood). Lesbian. Good relations with the unions. Was part of Brown's team.

Just got sent a text by my one friend on the Burnham team, he's not going to serve in the Shadow Cabinet. (The same person told me last week that Burham would win though Tongue)

Shame about Reeves ruling herself out, I like her. I do think a lot of Labourite frontbenchers are shooting themselves in the foot here. It's like they want a "stabbed in the back" mythos to emerge.

Btw, I don't think it's very realistic but if Corbyn ends the SNP menace I take back every note of scepticism I've said about him.

For anyone who lived through the 1980's (and most of the 1990's for that matter), I suspect the next few years are going to feel very, very familiar...

Will we get a breakdown of the vote eventually? I know Labour said initially they wouldn't release it, but they went back on that, didn't they?

If true that is very significant.

Yeah, that's really dumb and petty. It seems they're already at work to undermine him, instead of actually giving him a chance.

They're likely still bitter about the events of 2005-2007.

I honestly really like Benn as Foreign Secretary.

Corbyn is probably just going to assemble a soft left cabinet-I feel bad for the hard left MP's like Abbott.

I'm honestly split (pun excused) as whether people like Hunt, Reeves, Kendall should have pulled out-I mean I can't see Tristam Hunt going on TV everyday to support him as a cabinet minister.

Although there's been grandstanding by idiots like Jamie Reed (who?), putting his letter on twitter two seconds after JC wins
