Lots of hypocrisy being displayed by the left on this, I notice.
I'm still siding with abolishing the house - but I'm glad they opposed this.

The Lords is comprised of:
249 - Conservatives
212 - Labour
176 - Crossbenchers
112 - Lib Dems
30 - Non-affiliated
25 - "Lords Spiritual"
4 - DUP
3 - UKIP
2 - Plaid Cymru
2 - UUP
1 - Green

Which obviously reflects public opinion in the UK...

UK Poll of Polls:
I'll update this regularly to reflect new opinion polls:

General Election Poll of Polls:
Con - 38% (N/C)
Lab - 32% (+1%)
UKIP - 14% (+1%)
Lib - 7% (-1%)
SNP - 5% (N/C)
Grn - 3% (-1%)

Average is based on the average from the most recent poll from ComRes, ICM, Ipsos Mori, Opinium, Survation and YouGov. Changes are compared to 2015 Election. Only polls from within the last three months are counted.

UK Referendum on EU Poll of Polls:
Remain - 46%
Leave - 39%

Average is based on the average from the most recent poll, asking the referendum question, from ComRes, ICM, Ipsos Mori, Survation and YouGov. Opinium are yet to poll on the referendum question. Only polls from within the last three months are counted.

Scottish Independence Poll of Polls:
Yes - 47%
No - 46%

Average is based on the average from the most recent poll from Ipsos Mori, Panelbase, Survation, TNS and YouGov. ICM have not polled recently. Only polls from within the last three months are counted.

Scottish General Election Poll of Polls:
Constituency:
SNP - 54% (+9%)
Lab - 21% (-11%)
Con - 14% (N/C)
Lib - 6% (-2%)

Regional:
SNP - 47% (+3%)
Lab - 21% (-5%)
Con - 14% (+2%)
Grn - 8% (+4%)
Lib - 6% (+1%)
UKIP - 3% (+2%)
SSP - 1% (+1%)

Average is based on the average from the most recent poll from Ipsos Mori, Panelbase, Survation, TNS and YouGov. ICM have not polled recently. Only polls from within the last three months are counted. Changes are compared to 2011 Election. Note - some polls don't prompt for the Scottish Socialist Party (now part of RISE - Scotland's Left Alliance).

Welsh General Election Poll of Polls:
Constituency:
Lab - 39% (-3%)
Con - 23% (-2%)
Plaid - 18% (-1%)
UKIP - 13% (+13%)
Lib - 6% (-4%)

Regional:
Lab - 34% (-3%)
Con - 24% (+1%)
Plaid - 18% (N/C)
UKIP - 13% (+9%)
Lib - 6% (-3%)
Grn - 4% (+1%)

Based on the most recent YouGov poll - as they're the only pollster to poll Welsh elections. Changes are compared to 2011 Election.

Education is so poor, in Scotland, under SNP rule - that Labour can't even spell words correctly in their PPB...

I wonder if, hypothetically, Corbyn was younger and more charismatic if he would be doing any better.

We wouldn't be hearing the word 'unelectable' as much, certainly.

His age is of secondary importance compared to most of his key beliefs which simply don't chime with the majority of British voters.

Nothing. I think people who call themselves Crossbenchers are just identifying themselves as more self righteous.

http://www.newstatesman.com/politics/uk/2015/11/labour-right-triumphs-plp-elections

So the MPs have voted overwhelmingly for the most right-wing Blarites in the PLP elections, whilst the rank and file the most left-wing socialist as leader. Seems to be an odd move if they're supposedly concerned about bitter infighting - and does suggest that the gulf between the membership and Westminster is even worse than believed: most are Blairite true-believers judging from these.

Note that only four of the seventeen posts were actually contested (the posts not usually being thought of as mattering at all). No idea which ones.

Hmm, maybe jumped the gun there, then. Wouldn't like to mischaracterize the mood of the PLP if this is just a talking shop that the Blairites have set up camp in.

The contests chairs were Education, Foreign Affairs, Housing and Treasury chairs, which were won by Ian Austin, Mike Gapes, Julie Elliot and Chris Leslie

Progress-ite PPC Emily Benn has officially complained about Corbynite Head of Policy for a past tweet endorsing Class War, leading to his suspension. Meanwhile it's surfaced that she tweeted endorsing the WEP in reaction to Corbyn's "male-dominated" (ha) shadow cabinet. It'll be interesting to see if a) Fisher is reinstated or b) similar consequences befall her.

Watching a panel discussion with Mitchell and Webb and Armstrong and Bain about the new series of Peep Show. Someone remarked how the line "If you've got nothing to hide, you've got nothing to fear" was written months ago and isn't a topic joke. What English news item would it be a topical joke about?

There's lots of incredibly concerning stuff in the Investigatory Powers Bill which isn't much better than the earlier versions and I'm incredibly disappointed that Labour seem to be supporting it.  Possibly the worst part of it is the requirement that back doors be inserted into methods of communication that are currently encrypted so the government can access them: and also would make it a crime punishable by prison to reveal the existence of those back doors regardless of who you are talking to or the circumstances.  This could lead to things like WhatsApp and iMessage not being available legally in the UK since I can't imagine Apple or Facebook putting weaknesses in their software just to cater for some draconian UK legislation.  There's also the usual bulk collection and secret courts stuff but sadly it shouldn't be too surprising that is contained in the bill...  All in all, not a great piece of legislation!

Also apparently Jeremy Corbyn didn't bow enough at the Cenotaph, according to some old Tory Home Secretary.  I'm disappointed but not overly surprised that someone has decided to politicise what should be a somber occasion...

Yes, while Corbyn may well have made some unforced errors, that's just picking on him for picking's sake.

The Alistair Carmichael case is ongoing.

For those who haven't been following it, here's a few news stories regarding it:

Interesting how neither the Benns or Milibands have continued in the radical family tradition.
