Tom Watson - who has a direct mandate of his own from members don't forget and is, I suppose, now the de facto leader of the traditionalist Right (and as such he's pro NATO and pro this) - is being very public about the need to find some sort of compromise; i.e. a free vote.

The awful Grant Shapps has quit his ministerial job over bullying allegations (not about him).

Shapps did a reasonable thing by resigning, let's at least Grant him that.

Guardian article about the public's opinion on Jeremy Corbyn:

http://www.theguardian.com/politics/datablog/2015/nov/30/labour-losing-touch-public-opinion-research-suggests

It's conclusions are fairly obvious as a result of the Labour membership's decision to elect someone of Corbyn's ilk but it's interesting none the less.

Here's a snippet:

In summary, the poll shows the depth and breadth of opposition to Corbyn as Labour leader and the policies and issues he represents. The party is winning tenuous support from former Lib Dems and Greens because of Corbyn, while simultaneously losing support from voters who best reflect public opinion. In so doing it is choosing to represent a dwindling section of the electorate that not only does not reflect the breadth of public opinion but is blissfully unconcerned by it.

It also includes possibly the most confusing flow chart I've ever seen Cheesy:

That's far too clumsy of a graph, should have a done a table.

so it seems LD hadn't reach rock bottom quite yet

It appears that a large number of Lib Dem voters are in the Don't Know category, for now at least, so they're probably polling around what they got in the election (without don't knows).

Crisis avoided for now, then, although this episode certainly didn't do Corbyn any good. A precedent has been set and he'll have to avoid it happening too often if he wishes to have real power as party leader.

YouGov Poll - Would you approve or disapprove of the RAF taking part in air strike operations against Islamic State/ISIS in Syria?
Approve - 48% (-11 on last week)
Disapprove - 31% (+11)

Support from air strikes have plummeted in the last week; although Cameron's approval rating increase and Corbyn's falls.

Why did so many Labour MPs vote against airstrikes in Syria when the vast majority voted for them in Iraq? Is it all down to Corbyn?

Syria is actually more an intervention like Kosovo whilst Iraq was a request from the Iraqi government.

There's also tons of bollocks floating around from the anti-war left that we're simply 'bombing syria' and 'starting war' when in fact we're expanding a military operation.

Benn put forward the best case for intervention since Blair's 2001 address to the conference

I'm sure the atmosphere in the party has changed, but the situation in Syria is a lot messier than in Iraq.  In particular, the Iraqi intervention is at the request of the Iraqi government, so there are no doubts about legality, and it's also relatively clear in Iraq who the ground forces we're working with are.  Furthermore, the vote on intervention in Iraq happened at about the time ISIS/Daesh seemed to be trying to carry out a genocide of the Yazidis; I'm generally pretty uncomfortable about military action but intervening at Sinjar had a clear purpose and seemed very hard to argue against.

Noticed Jess Philips has done an interview with the Spectator where she gloats about how she told Dianne Abbott to f**k off, and how loads of people have told her they wanted to do the same.

All whilst tweeting Corbyn must take a tougher stand over Labour MPs having voted for airstrikes on Syria and done so against the wishes of many receive an expected amount of backlash for it (that is to say, a couple of tweets). Tomorrows Torygraph has that filed under terrorism.

Do these people get any more transparent?

There's been a stabbing at Leytonstone Underground Station in East London, three injured, one seriously. A man has been tasered and arrested - saying apparently "This is for Syria".

Sources are multiple for this, but here is the Sky News report.
