UKIP appear to be providing some entertainment.

The disadvantage of acquiring "major party status" is that TV covers you in a lot more depth (NB the Lib Dems have lost that I believe).

Yeah, that's ... tenuous. Haven't the SNP's online lynch mobs got anything better to do?

Worked with Phil Woolas last time. Well, Labour did win the by-election, but still...

(Oh and Galloway's trying the same thing himself)

You know, there's a certain irony in Sir Gerald Kaufman becoming Father of the House.

One has to wonder about the cause. Sadly.

Police are saying no suspicious circumstances, but haven't released cause of death. Horrible news; I may not have agreed with him, but he had strong principles - being the only Lib Dem MP to vote against going into coalition.

RIP.

FWIW, the family have confirmed the cause of death. Sadly it's not that surprising.

Worth mentioning that Unite have deleted the bit of their constitution requiring their strikes to be within the law.

Best thing is that this is literally the first time that most people will have ever heard of him.

Sex, drugs and politics; a tabloid's field day.

If any of those accusations are deemed true, then the scandal is truly massive; it really does seem that Savile opened the floodgates and a lot of birds are coming home to roost.

Scotland's soil and weather is only suitable to grow crops that have already been bred to be 'hardy' enough to actually grow here in the first instance. Most commercial GM crops (maize, oilseed rape etc) aren't grown in any great measure anyway. The ban isn't against the research, just growing them commercially. There's nothing gained or lost through GM (and I say that as a supporter) in Scotland so there's no damage in taking what is rightly seen as a 'populist' measure against it.

How did Scotland cope in the olden days i.e. before 1603?

The speculation is that the original nomination was Boxcar Willie McCrea.

He makes the late Rev Paisley seem moderate.

And for Labour it's "we kept someone in our party and sent her a membership ballot despite the fact she's been a Tory minister for months".

Armando Iannucci must be laughing his head off.

Corbyn for all his faults isn't an awful person, or tared with scandal like other UK leftists like George Galloway, Dianne Abbott and Red Ken

Unfortunately, some of his foreign policy/defence views are distracting at best... which may end up getting moderated... leading to accusations of being a sell-out.

I note that he's asking supporters to send him questions for PMQs. My first thought was "Can he not think of any of his own?", my second was "I pity the poor person at One Brewer's Green [Labour HQ] who is going to have to deal with all of those".

Too early to tell on that front, but we're certainly seeing terrible party management.

If your private meeting can be heard in the corridor, something isn't going right.

Michael Meacher, the MP for Oldham West and Royton since 1970, has died at the age of 75. He served on the frontbenches for a long time back in the day and was a noted Bennite. He also briefly ran for the leadership in 2007. RIP.

Yes, a real shame. He also appeared in the original Edge of Darkness as himself, you may be interested to know.

RIP.
