Robin Cook and Charles Kennedy die early, but I'm sure the likes of Tony Blair are going to give Robert Mugabe a run for his money.

How significant is this latest defeat of Cameron concerning the EU referendum? Seems like quite an early occurrence this term.

As I've grown to despise British politics, I'm now hoping for even more chaos, for which the next opportunity will come soon enough in the form of a vote to leave the EU. Everything burns.

really hope this isn't some far right nut

To prevent misinterpretation, you really need to elaborate on what you meant there.

Would it be fair to say that the last Prime Minister to leave on his or her own terms was Harold Wilson?

Is electoral reform (read: proportional representation) now more likely? It would truly be beyond ironic if the LibDems were to successfully make a mockery of FPTP and end up in a position of power as a result of getting a large chunk of a decided minority, i.e. those who voted to remain.

It's hard to imagine Britons living in more interesting times than this.

Boris now says the vote to leave was "not entirely overwhelming" and Gove wants the exit talks to be informal.

They're  beginning to realise what exactly they've done and they're terrified.

Plan Boris was obviously for a narrow Remain vote and for him to then ride the coattails of anger amongst Tory members in the Shires to no. 10.

This is what everybody is saying right now, but what I just can't understand. How could anyone supporting a losing side of a referendum immediately be in a good position to become the next Prime Minister?

If Tony Blair is not going to be held to account for the Iraq War, then perhaps being hounded by it for years like this might be the next best thing.

Could still just be a (misguided) attempt at playing chicken with the EU.

Theresa May was almost guaranteed to have nearly two terms as PM, so why likely shorten that time by calling an early election? A very plausible explanation, which the markets seem to be rooting for, is that she's (finally?) facing reality on Brexit and wants to go for a soft(ish) Brexit and have a comfortable majority without any troublesome rebel backbenchers.
