The 2016 senate race winner will be either Sanchez or Harris. What is the chance that the loser runs again if (when) Feinstein retires in 2018, leading to them forming another female duo for an extended period of time?

Hopefully Feinstein retires and Sanchez never becomes Senator so that there's some chance that we can get two non completely terrible Senators.

I'll be casting a tactical vote for Sanchez, provided no other Democrats enter the race.  No brainer for Republicans to do this to defeat uber-leftist Kamala

Such a duo would be great!

Although I do have questions about Harris' defense of a prosecutor who fabricated evidence, but her overall record is good.

It'a CA, that is impossible.

Sanchez's campaign has been imploding, no? I'd say her career is going to be over soon.

If Sanchez and Harris were to serve together, would they be the first female pair of minorities in a state?

California needs even more horrible representation in the Senate:  Tom Steyer 2018!

My ideal scenario. Sanchez upsets Harris next year. Feinstein retires in 2018, Harris runs again but Eric Swalwell upsets her. Sanchez and Swalwell become the state's dynamic duo for the next 30+ years!

Why do I have a feeling Feinstein will be a lifer, in which case pulling out to 2024 or 2030?

And by that point, who knows.

Sanchez's career seems dead in the water.

Personally I'd like to see Mark Takano in the Senate in 2018.

It's gonna be Harris and Steyer. I think Steyer really wanted to run in 2016 but saw no path to victory with Harris in the race. Since Newsom is running for governor in 2018, there's no one who can clear the field once Feinstein retires.

I actually could see this happen. Just imagine the meltdown here and on DailyKos if it did...

We'll be deciding the Democrat candidate here - as that is the only option we realistically have. I am heavily leaning towards casting a defensive tactical vote (as Christians did in CA-52 last year) for a Democrat candidate (in this case Sanchez) in the open primary to advance her to the general. Unless Steve Poizner or a viable Republican runs, I think Sanchez advances to the general.

He is highly unqualified to serve the office he currently holds, let alone move to the upper chamber.
