They're deciding between death penalty and life in prison.

People really ought to have a little more compassion for humanity. Really despicable outcome.

Oppose the state killing any its own citizens on ideological grounds, but can't feel sorry for this guy at all.

I can't say I'm too worked up...but this should have been thought through a lot more... ISIS, Hamas, Al-Qaeda  and especially the Caucasus Emirate (representing Tsarnaev's Chechen and Kyrgyzstani heritage) will make a martyr out of him, and that's something to avoid when possible.

I agree with this. Plus I feel like giving him the death penalty is letting him off easy. Life imprisonment at a supermax facility with his crimes would have been extremely difficult. Also the appeal process is going to be long, expensive, and probably regularly in the news, like Timothy McVeigh. Especially compared to just putting him in a supermax and forgetting about him.

Sorry.  I have zero compassion for someone who obviously had no compassion for the innocent people he killed and maimed.  Terrorists like him deserve the death penalty.  I'm just surprised a jury in Massachusetts would unanimously give this terrorist what he deserves.

I oppose the death penalty being used in this situation but I respect the decision of the jury.

Unlike most Atlas posters, I have absolutely no qualms with the death penalty.  It is legitimate justice for those who kill people.  Retribution is a legitimate goal of the criminal justice system.

Though it absolutely should not be. That is a horrifying moral system that seeks such. I don't mean anything personal cinyc, but this is the most important issue to me by a long stretch rivaled only by abortion. Rehabilitation and public safety are the only legitimate considerations. Even in cases where that cannot be accomplished cully, he can still serve a purpose.

I am always very cautious with applying the death penalty, but this is an example of when it is completely appropriate. Great Jury!

Putting Tsarnaev to death won't serve any purpose at all. Some may feel better for a short moment, but their loved ones are gone forever and their wounds will never be completely healed. It won't deter anybody and Tsarnaev will only get off easier than rotting in prison for the rest of his life. And the whole notion of "retributive justice" is useless to society.

As of those who feel happy about a fellow man being executed without having any connection to the case, I can't help thinking of them as a bit bloodthirsty. "Justice is served" is a pathetic excuse for their own primitive instincts.

This is the right decision.

There's nothing more anti-social than intentionally killing total strangers with a bomb.  He showed a total disregard for their lives.  It's one thing when you kill someone who wronged you in some way because you were angry at them.  That's horrible in its own way.  But, this was truly a crime against all of us because we could have easily been there.  This is a crime against the state in essence, so it's appropriate for the state to end this guy's life.  And, there's no chance that he's innocent.
