Geraldine: The Comeback "Girl"
Senator Geraldine Ferraro won an impressive victory in New Hampshire last night, finishing second behind Massachusetts Senator Paul Tsongas and beating out Arkansas Governor Bill Clinton, who staked his entire presidential campaign on a strong showing in New Hampshire. Ferraro, had seen her campaign flounder in recent weeks, over repeated questions over her husband's personal finances and whether or not she has the stamina to be President.

To a large crowd of supporters in Concord, NH, Ferraro proclaimed herself "The comeback girl" and that her campaign was "back on the road to victory." Since her unsuccessful nomination for Vice President, eight years ago and her upset victory for the Senate in 1985, Ferraro has always campaigned as an underdog. Running low on campaign resources she took to New Hampshire and its affinity for retail politicking, going town to town, city to city, coffee shop to coffee shop in order to win votes and while Tsongas came out on top, Ferraro appears for the moment to be at least back in the game.

New Hampshire Primary: Democrats (99% Reported)
√ Paul Tsongas: 32.2%
Geraldine Ferraro: 27.1%
Bill Clinton: 15.8%

Buchanan Defeats Bush in close Primary
"Buchanan-Brigades have driven back King George's Army tonight," Pat Buchanan declared addressing his supporters after all media outlets declared him the winner in the New Hampshire Primary over President George Bush. Buchanan's narrow victory over Bush is only further signs of a weak Bush campaign, and the discontent with his conservative base over his decision to raise taxes; the hallmark of Buchanan's campaign against Bush. President Bush hardly campaigned in New Hampshire, up until recent weeks and was not in the Granite State on primary night.

New Hampshire Primary: Republicans (100% Reported)
√ Pat Buchanan: 49.5%
George Bush: 48.7%

BREAKING NEWS: BUCHANAN PROJECTED WINNER IN SD PRIMARY
√ Pat Buchanan: 53.69%

"President Bush has lost another  contests. Patrick J. Buchanan, who shocked the political establishment by defeating the incumbent President first in the New Hampshire primary a few weeks ago and now in the South Dakota Primary and it appears to be by a healthy margin. Buchanan launched his campaign as a rebuke to Bush for breaking his "no new taxes pledge" and now is capitalizing on the anti-incumbent sentiment ripping across the country like a tornado through a trailer park, and now its seems to have cost the President a second straight loss." -- Dan Rather

Bush: We've got the Big Mo Back!

"President George Bush is a winner this evening, and big one. He defeats Mr. Buchanan in four of the five states. He takes Florida, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Massachusetts Rhode Island, Texas, . Mr. Buchanan has won the state of Louisiana and Mississippi. He was expected to do very well in the deep south this evening, some polls even putting him ahead in Oklahoma and Tennessee, but the President has fended off the challenge in these contents and performed rather well tonight, and as he just said a little while ago from his victory rally in Florida, wife Barbara by his side, "We've got the big mo back." -- Dan Rather

The Sunshine Kid?
Governor Clinton scored another impressive win in the Florida primary, capturing 55 percent of the vote to Geraldine Ferraro's 33 percent. Still, questions dog Clinton over his martial infidelity and whether or not he can find success outside of his native region. Aside from his impressive wins in the South Clinton has only scored one victory outside of the region, narrowly taking the Wyoming Caucus. He presents himself as a new Democrat, a break from the Mondale and Dukakis wings of the party and in a subtle jab, a break from Ferraro, who he has tried to paint as a representative of the old, failed Democratic politics. Still, Clinton has yet to prove himself beyond being a region candidate.

March 31st

Clinton Ignores Ferraro, Focuses his pitch on Jobs, the Economy and Bush
"I'm not too concerned with what's been said. I'm more concerned about what's been done, what's been done to our country these past four years. The President preaches about a thousand points of light and yet for millions of Americans there has been nothing but darkness, and despair, well I have a new message, a sound, proven message: Hope and help is on the way!"

Vermont Caucus Too Close to Call

"Polls originally showed a slight lead for Senator Ferraro, but tonight Caucus night it is unclear. Governor Clinton, doing better than expected, this after a series of blistering ads from the Ferraro campaign, going after the Governor for his ethical scandals, including his service or lack thereof in Vietnam, questions involving his wife Hillary Rodham Clinton and Mr. Clinton's assertion that by electing him the American people would get two Presidents for the price of one, and the lists goes on. The Ferraro campaign has gone very negative very quickly and I have to say looking at some of these ads it looks right out of the Bush campaign from 1988..."

BILL CLINTON PROJECTED TO WIN THE VERMONT CAUCUS
√ Bill Clinton: 53.1%
Geraldine Ferraro: 46.9%

Republican Side: Buchanan Won't Quit
"We're going to take this all the way to the convention. Now why, why is there such a rush to end this primary fight? The Democrats are enjoying theirs. Let's let the conservatives and the true believers in our cause have their say too."

Clinton Routs Ferraro in the Keystone State

Bill Clinton won a decisive victory over fellow Democrat Geraldine Ferraro, in the race for the Democratic Primary. Clinton won the Pennsylvania Primary with an astonishing 57 percent of the vote. Ferraro conceded to Clinton, but has still vowed to remain in the race for the Democratic nomination, "until every vote is counted, because every vote deserves to be counted!"

Bush Wins PA Narrowly
Despite the recent calls from prominent Republicans, Pat Buchanan nearly the incumbent President by winning the Pennsylvania Primary. Bush won 50.4 percent to Buchanan's 49.6 percent. Bush campaigned heavily in the state and early tracking polls showed the President winning 51 to 47 percent, but Buchanan performed better than expected and what is now only likely to prolong the GOP fight for the nomination.

May 5th: Ferraro Wins Delaware Caucus
√ Geraldine Ferraro: 50.8%
Bill Clinton: 49.2%

May 5th: Contests

Bush Puts Buchanan Away in May 5th Contests
"The Big Mo is back!" Following his narrow win Pennsylvania a few weeks back, President Bush won four straight victories, Indiana, Delaware, North Carolina and the District of Columbia. The Bush campaign outspent Pat Buchanan by a margin of 3-1 across the board, though the challenger did perform well in Indiana capturing 46 percent of the vote to Bush's 54. Everywhere else the President won with upwards of 57 to 59 percent of the vote. Buchanan, who was counting doing well did not offer any statement on the future of this candidacy, only that he would be reassessing his campaign going forward.

Clinton's Streak Continues
Arkansas Governor Bill Clinton won three of the four contests on May 5th. Indiana, North Carolina and the District of Columbia -- all by massive margins; upwards of 55 to 59 percent of the vote --  winning North Carolina with 67 percent of the vote. Geraldine Ferraro captured Delaware. Despite Ferraro's pledge to stay in the race until the primaries end in June, Clinton has now amassed a large lead in the delegate count and party elders are calling on the New York Senator to drop out in favor of the likely nominee.

Perot Jumps to the Lead
Independent candidate for President, Ross Perot is now leading his Democratic and Republican contenders for the general election. A recent Gallup poll puts the Texas billionaire at 32 percent of the vote, with President Bush at 30 percent and Governor Clinton and Senator Ferraro at 27 and
26 percent respectively.

Buchanan Edges out Bush in Montana
Running low on resources and staff Pat Buchanan arrived in Montana and held an impromptu rally with supporters on the airport tarmac. Only a few reporters covered the Republican candidate, where he spoke in a somber tone, not the bombastic delivery of the past, but on the state of the race and of the Republican party. "I am in this race for you. For the people who showed up here today. Despite the pundits and naysayers I cannot and will not let you down. I must give it my all in the face of improbable odds."

Buchanan won the Montana contest, capturing 51.9 percent of the vote to President Bush' 48.1 percent. Bush last visited the state in March, but did not campaign leading up to the vote.

"We got 'em beat!"

Triumphant from his home state of Virgina, Pat Buchanan declared victory over President Bush, after winning his home state by a margin of 55 to 45 percent. Buchanan also swept the neighboring West Virginia primary, as well as the Nebraska and Wyoming Caucus. President Bush won Vermont and the two men essentially split the Maine Caucus with roughly 50 percent of the vote. Buchanan's resurgences has caused tremors to ripple through the Bush Campaign, who had hoped Buchanan's campaign was effectively derailed after losing in Pennsylvania and narrowly winning in Montana. Republican party faithful are concerned about Buchanan's consistent attacks against the President and how it might harm him and the GOP ticket in the November election.

Bush and the Problem that Won't go Away
George Bush's problem is bigger than Pat Buchanan, who is in all likelihood will not be the Republican nominee. Bush's problem is the Republican Party, moreover the base which seems to have moved past him entirely after breaking his defining campaign pledge to not raise taxes. Conservatives groups were always weary of Bush as Ronald Reagan's heir apparent, but rallied around the former Vice President in the '88 race, but after four years many have bolted and are behind Buchanan's long shot bid, or will at the very least stay home. Can Bush rebuild his party, can Bush win without the conservative base? The President has yet to answer this questions and time is running out.

Bush Prevails

Despite a stiff challenge from conservative commentator Pat Buchanan, President George Bush has secured enough delegates to be nominated and thus will be the Republican nominee. In a primary season that went all the way to June, Bush came out on top, after beating back an insurgency candidacy from Buchanan who blasted Bush for breaking his 1988 campaign pledge to not raise taxes. Buchanan, who was unlikely to win the nomination had hoped to deny Bush the required delegates to be nominated on the first ballot, but the Bush campaign's media ad-buy in the delegate rich states of Ohio, New York, New Jersey and California helped put the President over the top.

Buchanan conceded the nomination to Bush, but did not openly endorse the President and has made no mention if he intends to release his delegates before the convention.

Clinton to Be the Democrat's Nominee
Bill Clinton has a majority of the delegates and a lead in the popular vote -- enough to make the case to Democrats this summer that he should be the party's nominee to take on George Bush. After a bitter and divisive primary between Clinton and other Democrats, which included Geraldine Ferraro, the Arkansas Governor pulled ahead after a late surge in the south and was able to build momentum and overtake other prominent Democrats including Paul Tsongas. Clinton is now tasked with the challenge of uniting the Democratic party after the primary and preparing it to take on both President Bush and Independent candidate Ross Perot, who currently leads both Clinton and Bush with 35 percent of the vote.

The Ticket!

After speculation that Bill Clinton would select either Tennessee Senator Al Gore or Florida Senator Bob Graham to be his running mate, Clinton pulled an upset by picking Indiana Congressman Lee Hamilton of Indiana. The pick is seen as a wise choice by many, given Hamilton's experience in Congress and age, (61 to Clinton's 46). It is also is a play for the American heartland, a key chunk of electorate Clinton will need in order to capture the White House in November. Recent polls have shown an uptick for the Arkansas Governor, while Businessman Ross Perot still leads the Governor, Clinton has now surpassed President George Bush for second place in most national polls. Clinton aides believes after a successful convention the Democrat will be firmly in the lead.

Report: Ferraro Asked to Run With Clinton?
Geraldine Ferraro, the most successful female candidate to ever run for President, came up short in the race for the nomination against Bill Clinton. Many of her supporters and even some in the party felt Clinton should pick the one time Vice Presidential candidate in order to better unite the party. It is now reported that Senator Ferraro was on the shortlist for Clinton's VP, but withdrew when asked, reportedly saying, "she ran to be President." The Ferraro or Clinton Campaigns have not responded for a comment on the report.

Clinton: Tomorrow will be Better
"Fellow Democrats and my fellow Americans, it is with great humility that I accept your nomination for President of the United States..."

Bill Clinton accepted the Democratic nomination for President and took aim not at Ross Perot, who currently leads in most polls, but at President Bush. "We've tried it their way for twelve years and what are the results? Higher deficits, more taxes and less opportunity. It is time for us to make a new beginning." After a bitter primary contest Clinton emerged as the Democratic candidate and selected Indiana Congressman Lee Hamilton as his running mate.

Fellow Democrat and Presidential candidate, Geraldine Ferraro, who came up second to Clinton graciously backed the Democratic nominee in Clinton's nominating speech, calling him "A man with a plan". Ferraro, denied reports that she was asked to run with Clinton as VP, but turned down the spot. She only said, "We have our ticket and candidate, we Democrats are going forward united now and ready to win."

Coming out of the convention most polls show an uptick in support for Governor Clinton, putting him narrowly behind Perot or tied for first. The Republicans are set to hold their convention in Huston next month. Republicans, are largely united behind President Bush who emerged the likely nominee after a long primary fight with Pat Buchanan, but Bush's rival has yet to formal back the President, giving some Republicans a headache to contend with, heading into their convention.

Gallup Poll: Post DNC
Clinton: 34%
Perot: 31%
Bush: 26%

Perot: I'm fed up!
Ross Perot, rallied his supporter in Ohio following the Democratic convention. While he praised Clinton for representing a break from the orthodoxy that produced nominee like Dukakis and Mondale, but blasted Clinton for what he called, "a man without specifics, running against a man of failed policies (referring to President Bush)." Perot pitched his case that he was the real man in the race with a plan and that being an outsider from Washington and elected politics benefited him greatly. "We've tried it their way, let's try it a new way."

ABC NEWS/WASH POST POLL: CLINTON SURGES
Clinton: 37%
Perot: 30%
Bush: 28%

Battleground State Average: Clinton +3.8
Clinton: 34.0%
Perot: 30.2%
Bush: 29.9%

Buchanan Backs Bush, Attacks the Democrats
"....The agenda [Bill] Clinton and [Hillary] Clinton would impose on America — abortion on demand, a litmus test for the Supreme Court, homosexual rights, discrimination against religious schools, women in combat units — that's change, all right. But it is not the kind of change America wants. It is not the kind of change America needs. And it is not the kind of change we can tolerate in a nation that we still call God's country."

Pat Buchanan officially, an finally endorsed the President's reelection and was given a prime time speaking slot at the Republican Convention, in which he decried the Democratic Party and their candidate. The Republicans had hoped to make the convention about unified party, but instead the major takeaway was what many called Buchanan's 'hateful' and 'attacking' speech, aimed at the Clintons and the Democratic Party.

Bush Limps out the Convention
Running for the fourth consecutive Republican term was never going to be easy and President Bush made his best case in a political speech, which was low on anecdotes and heavy on partisan attack; a general theme of the convention. While most Republican who backed Buchanan have rallied around the President, the Bush-Quayle ticket has received little no bounce in the polls; putting them largely in third place behind Perot and Clinton who now hold second and first place respectively.

The Debates

Most national polls show President Bush trailing both Ross Perot and Bill Clinton in the Presidential race. Clinton showcased his strength by dominating the first Presidential debate against his two opponents. While Clinton spent most of his time going after the President, Ross Perot appeared to win over the audience with humor and criticized both Clinton and Bush for representing "either way more of the same. Mr. Clinton talks about a new beginning, Mr. Bush wants a do-over, well how about none of the above. Let's go a third way." Perot, despite his strong performance in the polls is considered the underdog and most believe the race will ultimately come down to Clinton v Bush.

Perot has received criticism in recent weeks over his choice of Admiral James Stockdale for Vice President. During the one Vice Presidential debate, Stockdale appeared confused and out of focus, while the debate largely concentrated on Hamilton and Quayle. Most public opinion polls showed Hamilton the winner over Quayle by a margin of 44 to 31 percent, compared to only 17 percent who thought Stockdale one. Perot's selection and lack of political resume have raised questions over his ability to win and if he were to govern. President Bush in recent weeks has criticized Perot over his lack of experience, particularly in areas of national security and foreign policy.

Clinton Blames Bush on the Economy, President polls continue to sink, Perot Strikes Back

Perot: I have no experience in the ways of Washington and that's a good thing!
Following the third and final Presidential debate Clinton and Perot were seen as the strongest, compared to the President who largely stuck to his talking points and attacked Clinton on issues of character and trust. "You cannot trust this man," the President said during one the more heated discussion. "Judgement and clarity are key traits for the oval office." Clinton largely deflected much of his attacks and pivoted to his strong suit, the economy. Perot reminded voters that much of the dysfunction in Washington and problems in the country were the result of the two party system and the lack of "common sense". The campaign heads into the final stretch, where polls show a tightening race between Perot and Clinton.
