Since there was one thread about Rockefeller Republicans. I was just thinking, the Democratic counterpart to Rockefeller GOP would be a staunch new deal Democrat from Arkansas or Georgia who described himself as having ancestral loyalties to the party and constantly argued the case for Democrats to try to win back poor white southerners by becoming more economically populist.

Without the racist baggage (because he's most certainly not a bigot in any sense of the word), Miles comes to mind.

I definitely don't fit in with the old Dixiecrats in terms of staunch social conservatism melded with prejudice but I do think of myself as a New Deal Democrat who believes that economic populism as opposed to a social focus can attract blue collar whites back to the party.

Yeah, as said upthread, I'd be pretty close.

Actually, I'm probably one of the few posters who would be a Democrat over party's entire history (my green avatar aside).

I was kind of one except in recent history Dixiecrats turned very much fiscally conservative. Definitely not now since I no longer am a Democrat.

He certainly seemed to idolize them (puke), but when he switched to a blue avatar, I think it technically disqualifies him.

No, they all switched to the GOP, dummy. Wink

Miles is the closest I can think of.
