I think the Modern Whigs have the owl as their party symbol.

Presidents Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt were the Modern day Whigs.

1916 was the year that the party split came about, as WWI and neutralization stemmed the Whig movt; and the Income Tax Increase created the Torie party; which gave rise to Tea Party movement. Which name wasnt official given until 2010.

But Hughes; who still symbolized the owl, was far different than Harding and Hoover; opposition to tax increases which lead to Great Depression.

I don't see much evidence showing that opposition to tax increases on the part of Presidents Harding, Coolidge, and Hoover played a major a role in causing the Great Depression. If anything, changes in monetary policy by the Federal Reserve, lack of adequate stock market regulation, changes in international trade pattern as a result of the Smoot–Hawley Tariff Act, the overextension of consumer credit, and the overproduction of consumer goods in a way that could not keep up with demand were the main causes of the Great Depression.

Lessons not learn from the Dubya Bush tax cuts of 2001.

When Grover Cleveland and Harding were president; when country were turning into economic hardship tax receipts were down. As country which ran huge deficots during 1920's and after 2001.

It was the raising of the tax bracket of the rich from 25-79 percent that helped pull us out of the Great Depression. By Hoover who changed his mind on this and FDR.

Same with Obama; he lifted taxes on riches Americans.

I excluded Coolidge and Teddy; the were for estate taxes. As new welfare programs for poor were installed during FDR administration.

As useless as I know it is to engage you and all your insanity, he's referring to the Modern Whigs, a current political party that does nothing.

Yeah and they idealize President Teddy Roosevelt. I know that.

The Whigs opposed the imperial Presidency, were anti-war, wanted a one term limit, were monopolists to some extent, and opposed hard money. Yea, that really sounds like TR. The boundless ego, the drive for power, the overseas expansion and interventionism, seeking a second and then a third term, broke up monpolies and supported the Gold standard in contrast do not a good Whig make.

That said, he probably shared the view on internal improvements, certainly the hostility to immigrants and so forth forth. As for trade, I recall his position was regarded as uncertain and he flip at least once on it in his life time and that may have been for expedience.

That's stupid. The original Whigs used the raccoon.

According to data from http://federal-budget.insidegov.com, the U.S. was actually running budget surpluses each year from 1920 to 1930, even during the Recession of 1920-21. It really wasn't until the start of the Great Depression that the budget deficit began to increase.

If you've never read Jon Ronson's book Them: Adventures With Extremists, go to the last chapter and read about his experiences breaking into the Bohemian Grove alongside Alex Jones. The whole book is hilarious, but Ronson's reaction of "well, the owl represents the workload and cares of the world outside the grove, and they burn it to symbolize their freedom this break" vs Alex Jones thinking the owl is some sort of demonic pagan god that the people are literally sacrificing to is hilarious.

The demonic factor probably has to do with the Burney Relief.  Lilith, if it represents her, is evil.  Ishtar is goddess of love and fertility.   There are also parallels to Diana, goddess of the moon, the hunt, and childbirth (hence owls since they are nocturnal hunters).  Ishtar was also known as Eanna. they may as well be sacrificing the cares of the world symbolically to the owl as her messenger.

Either way they wouldn't do it if they didn't think symbolism mattered.

Diana artfully enlightens the night
And provides refreshing, cooling shade by day.
To fell the bloody wolf and the ass
Whose greediness destroys the green crop
Is princely glee and manly desire
It strengthens the hunters and earns the meal
When forest and field surround us in majesty
The cup of victory is filled more freely and happily
