Polled this a few years ago, interested in seeing if anything has changed.

Anyway, I answered 'yes'. I am a member of the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union, aka the guys and gals behind the registers at your local grocery store, cutting meat in the delis, meat markets, and seafood departments, packing meat in packing houses, etc.

Depends on the student union. The student union in Quebec is certainly closer to being an actual union than say, 'student unions' elsewhere, which are just alternative names for student governing bodies, which are about as far as one can get from a union as you can get.

No, but I wouldn't be opposed to joining one as long as they aren't insanely overzealous in their cause.

No.

When I worked in a grocery store from age 16 to 18 I had to be.  Bastards took a chunk from each pay and I needed every penny. Sad

I was a member of AEA for a period, but my membership lapsed awhile back. The rules for AEA and SAG-AFTRA are absolutely archaic. The dues were never the issue, just what you had to go through to even be accepted into the union was ridiculous. Membership just stopped being worth it after awhile, especially since I don't live in New York or California where union membership is helpful. Around here, it makes very little difference at all.

As of now, no, I will be in summer though because of my summer job and because Austria has mandatory union membership for everyone.

I was a member of the Canadian Union of Public Employees for a couple years. Incidentally, my old local is on strike right now.

And without them Mr. Boss Man would've been paying you in $0.25 off Shake n' Bake coupons, Uncle Gramps!
