Vivaportugalhabs for Mideast Assembly

Hello, I announced a run for the Mideast Assembly some time ago, and just got around to making a campaign thread! I'm running for the Labor Party and I'd love to represent the Mideast region. Although I don't have much experience in fantasy government, I would love to bring a fresh perspective to the assembly from a centre-left viewpoint. As many of you know, I consider myself a New Deal Democrat. I'm looking forward to working with others of all political affiliations to secure a better future for Atlasia. My platform is pretty basic but its as follows:

Budget
I do not support a balanced budget amendment in the way it is currently worded. I would like to see a balanced budget every period but do not believe an amendment is the way to go about this.

Governmental Reform
I support holding more public referenda. Moreover, I love how welcoming the Mideast is and would like to continue this wonderful tradition of acceptance and warm welcomes.

Unions
We must take every step possible to protect labor unions.

Education
I support the federal Childcare Reform Act. I believe in expanding educational opportunity for all students, regardless of background. We must also act to prevent the closure of rural schools and the consolidation of rural districts. I'd like to see the More and Better Teachers act come back up. I believe it is a good proposal that needs further discussion.

Environment
I believe fracking must be regulated. A moratorium on new wells should be placed. We must help expand renewable energy in the Mideast region.

Life/Choice
I do not support the death penalty, in keeping with my Catholic beliefs. I personally support the Simplify Abortion Laws Act, but support changing the deadline from 16 weeks to 20 weeks.

Agriculture
Farming is a key part of our region, and thus we must protect the rights of family farms along with ensuring that rural areas aren't left behind by lack of investment and declining population.

Transport
I wholeheartedly believe that the MA should have the best infrastructure in Atlasia. We need to partner with municipalities to build up strong public transit systems along with investing in our roads and railways.
