http://talkingpointsmemo.com/dc/budget-battles-gop-2016-governors

All four of the GOP governors with 2016 ambitions are facing budget shortfalls back home that their critics would argue are disasters of their own doing. It puts them in a politically difficult position: consider taxes increases that put their fiscal conservative credentials on the line, or move forward with ugly cuts that risk high-profile showdowns with their legislative counterparts.

Complicating matters, three of the four -- Louisiana's Bobby Jindal, Wisconsin’s Scott Walker and Ohio's John Kasich -- have signed the anti-tax pledge heralded by conservative activist Grover Norquist, while New Jersey’s Chris Christie has verbally promised to not raise taxes. That limits their options to address revenues that have fallen short of expectations.

“Post-Tea Party there are new requirements for being a successful candidate if you’re a Republican,” Norquist told TPM. “And that includes reining spending more than some are willing to do.”

Yeah.  If anything, the tea party has increased GOP control of Congress (at least the House) by driving up turnout among the base.   Low base turnout is the Dems' fault for midterms.  They need to fix that.

LOL at the idea that Scott walker created his budget crisis. 4 billion deficit he inherited.

O'Malley, on the other hand, managed to raise taxes substantially on everyone and STILL left office with a hefty deficit.

The left wing domination of this board MUST BE FOUGHT AND STOPPED AT ALL COSTS.

Every single day it is the same four rabid dem posters posting anti-R after anti-R threads.

I say enough is enough.

Tell me, who do you blame for the ballooning national debt? I genuinely would like to know.

And, O'Malley's tax hikes went to good things, like giving Marylanders the best schools in the nation.

Doesnt matter. Your side didnt turn out because either they lack civic responsibility or they didnt support your candidates.

I've wondered when somebody would bring this up.

Guys like Scott Walker and John Kasich are roaring into the primaries touting how they won a purple state with the promise of fiscal responsibility and succeeded, yet both still have gigantic budget deficits, and in the case of Kasich, his only success at shrinking it has come through taking on projects which increase federal funding to the state.

Yeah, they won those in elections where the only people who turned out were Republicans, generally speaking. The Tea Party has made the GOP utterly unelectable in elections where more than the Tea Party turns out.

Walker gave my household a 10$ tax cut, but is going to make me pay 20% more for college... At least I can buy a McDonalds meal, while I descend into poverty.

So why doesnt your side turnout?

Why do you present your side as either utterly incompetent or civically irresponsible in describing GOP victories?

I'm not denying that my side doesn't turn out. But the Tea Party is not responsible for that. They haven't helped the GOP in the slightest.

Don't ask me why Democrats don't turn out in midterms, but it's definitely not because of the Tea Party. Maybe in midterms, mostly old people who feel a civic duty to vote turn out. Or maybe in midterms, mostly the opposition party turns out, because the party in control gets complacent. I don't know, midterm elections are some of the wackiest phenomena I have ever witnessed in my life.

Democrats had roughly the same numbers after the 1986 midterms. We all know what followed.

Yeah, more Dem seats in 1988 than in 1986.

1994 was 8 years after 1986. But immediately was 1988, where the Dems gained everywhere but in the WH.
