Posting this to quiet the doubts about Kirk being moderate.

Yeah, because it worked so well for the 5th most bipartisan senator, Mark Pryor.

National Journal ranked Landrieu the 6th most bipastisan Senator for 2013, yet the OP seemed to have "doubts" about her. In fact, I think the guy he endorsed over her was in the top 50 most conservative House members.

Very interesting standards.

Considering how polarized congress is, that isn't saying much anymore.

Democrats won't attack Kirk for the 6 or 7 times he voted with Democrats, they'll attack him for the 50 or 60 that he didn't.

Well, generally agree with this ratings. But they are not percentagewise, so, really, in this era of extremely high polarization you can stand very high being only 10-15% "bipartisan"....

GOP lead an unprecedent obstruction of Loretta Lynch; which will be aired in a negative ad, sooner or later by Duckworth, as he will have some explaining to do, on that one.

As Duckworth look, as a wounded veteran to support.

This doesn't mean anything. He's not going to run on being the '6th most bipartisan Senator'.

It won't matter. Illinois isn't a bipartisan state, and certainly not in Presidential years.

Still Illinois somehow has Republican Governor. And Massachusetts and Maryland (even less bipartisan, by your measure) - too.... Maine reelected not only Republican, but very conservative Republican last year. And Vermont almost elected Republican last year (and would elect, if Scott ran. The same - Rhode Island if Avedisian would run.). Again will blame turnout only and say "Democrats almost do right"Huh Too simplistic..

Those were in midterm yrs where Dem turnout was much lower.

The GOP party is more moderate at state level in the states you named. But, Jeb or Walker will be the nominee.

Certainly, Clinton will look moderate compared to them.

Agree with 2 last sentences, but, as i already said, i wouldn't blame every Democratic loss on turnout ONLY. Democratic party has it's share of bad politicians and Republican - it's share of talents. After all - even in 2010 no one expected Kirk to win. And i am not yet sure, that Duckworth will be so good a candidate as she seems now. And sadly, but there will be an accusations that she got her polical career going mostly because of tragic injuries sustained (not because of polical talent), and so on...

Lepage is not a moderate and he won. He may have won even with Cutler not being on the ballot. He reached 48%, Cutler voters would have had to both turn out for a race without Cutler AND vote for Michaud by a true, over 60%, landslide for him to win.

Hogan is not much of a moderate in his views either, he simply promised not to touch a whole bunch of things to satisfy his state electorate.

Christie is no teapartier, but is bad at governing.

That leaves only Baker as a northern republican moderate governor who is good at governing.
