I prefer a more modest proposal over leaving the poor to starve.  Not that there aren't even better ideas than that modest proposal, but at least it's a start.

I have no problem with food subsidies to the poor, but if they want to die via starvation (stupid way to kill oneself in my opinion, but my opinion is meaningless here) they should be able to.  I'm not into force feeding people.
