Bill Simmons has this concept in his basketball book.
Here's the idea: Pick a team 12 man roster, not the 12 best players necessarily, the team that would work the best together as a unit from all basketball history. Assume that you can pick every player in what would be their prime.
PG: John Stockton 1990( 14.5 assists a game)
SG: Micheal Jordan 1991( His peak)
SF: Larry Bird 1980(Not his peak but would mesh the best with Jordan)
PF: Duncan 2003( His peak and one of most unselfish players ever)
C: Hakeem 1994( His peak and very unselfish)
Back Up PG: Jason Terry 2009( 6th man of year)
Back Up SG: Manu Ginobli 2005(Key bench player for the Spurs)
Back UP SF: Micheal Cooper 1982(Amazing Bench Player)
Back Up PF: Boris Diaw 2014( Key Player for Spurs Title Team)
Back UP C: Scott Pollard 2002(Key bench player for the 2002 kings)
11th Man: Robert Horry 2002( Big Shot Bob)
12 Man: Meyers Leonard 2015( Broke out this year)
