FF for content, I watched his show like once or twice a month, was always entertaining. Never really liked his celebrity interviews, but that is the main thing about him I guess. Tongue
7/10 watch again.

Meh. The top 10 lists are a format that appeals to me, but all the other late nights are funnier plus #BringOnColbert

I hate all the late night comedian shows, but Letterman was one of the better ones.

He was my go-to late night host. Far and away superior to every other active late night host. He was better than Fallon and far better than Seth Meyers is. I also liked him better than Conan, but not by a whole lot.

I liked Craig Ferguson somewhat and I've grown to like James Corden as well. Jimmy Kimmel is alright sometimes.

I'm betting though that Colbert is likely to assume Letterman's mantle of best late night host simply because he has far more talent than any one of the others.

He was fairly good at what is ultimately a dated format.

Same but I wanted to include Tom Snyder at No.3, although not a comedian but his interviews were great!

Never liked his CBS show but his NBC Late Night stuff was legendary. He was the closest things we had to a TV Howard Stern in those days. Like SNL was in the late 70's he changed so much about TV in those days. NBC screwed up so bad by going with gimp jaw instead of Dave. If he got the Tonight Show he would have been the King of Late night.

One of his best bits.

Bryant Gumbel was pissed off after this.. Good thing Dave was not heard in the actual Today broadcast (on that day), but you can see Jane, Bryant and Gene looking up while interviewing someone.

I didn't really get into late night until 2009. After getting out of school for the summer, I basically went nocturnal for about a month or so as I normally did beginning in 2005 and since we no longer had Satellite, that meant watching whatever was on DTV broadcast channels. I really got into Craig Ferguson but Letterman was not as funny in my opinion.

If you look at the captions in that with his dialogue from the video you could hear/make him  out a little more. You can actually hear a couple of the crew laughing their butts off during it that's prob why they started to pay attention.

We need more tricks like that during live TV it does't happen enough.

Seems longer than 10 years, but I haven't watched since the 90s so I don't know.  I'm more of a Conan kind of guy, but I loved Letterman when I was younger.....actually, I should say I loved Letterman when HE was younger.  I suspect NBC screwing him over on the Tonight Show changed him.

Carson is the best ever and the rest of them will tell you the same.

Honestly, I generally found him way way too dry and I'm considered to have a dry sense of humour. But when he was on, he was on.
