Columbia
Dutchess
Manhattan
Brooklyn
Delaware

Come visit Chautauqua County and you might add it to your list.  Smiley

For me:

Allegheny
Butler
Erie
Chester
Lehigh

Dan and I a few years ago spent a week at the Chautauqua Institution there, the main event being to watch a modernized version of the play Macbeth directed by a friend. https://chq.org/
All those earnest politically progressive Christians who seemingly disdained hedonism of any kind, with two Godless gays prowling around!

The county was nice, but was not a place that caused my spirit to soar.

Mrs. Grumps and I have a place about 15 miles from there where we do weekends in the spring and summer.  Next time you're in the area we'd welcome having a drink with a couple of Godless gays.  Cheesy

Ohio
Perry
Hocking
Vinton
Athens
Harrison

Generally the course of the Hocking River, Zaleski State Forest, and Lake Tappan are some of the most gorgeous bits of Ohio I've seen. Would not dream of adding an urban county or somewhere I've actually lived to this list.

Nice!!!

Been some (15) years since I have last been to DC but been to all of those neighborhoods multiple times over the years visiting friends from the District....

Love it that you have the top three Salvadoran neighborhoods on your top five list!!!!

I’m going to do both CA and NV since I’ve been to all of them (even if it’s just line hopping for a few)

Nevada
1 Washoe
2 Douglas
3 White Pine
4 Carson City
5 Storey

Not really a Las Vegas fan; Hoover Dam is cool, but Vegas is not. And I’m not anti-gambling (quarter blackjack is good entertainment at a reasonable price)

California
1 Mendocino
2 Mariposa
3 Monterey
4 San Luis Obispo
5 Sacramento

I like Yosemite and the North and Central Coasts, along with where I live.

1. Cerro Gordo (Clear Lake FTW)
2. Black Hawk (Waterloo—Cedar Falls is what I call home, even if I were to move)
3. Floyd (Charles City has a certain quaintness I love)
4. Linn (I'm just chillin' in Cedar Rapids)
5. Jefferson (Home to Maharishi Vedic City, and was Kanye West's best county nationwide)

I'd include Chautauqua, along with Saratoga, Monroe, Tompkins, and Hamilton.

New York
Hamilton
St. Lawrence
Lewis
Herkimer
Franklin

Vermont
Franklin
Essex
Orange
Grand Isle
Caledonia

I could also say "not Chittenden" and you would get the gist of it. Towns might be more appropriate for Vermont given how meaningless counties are here, but that's difficult to narrow down to just five. Maybe... Johnson, Bristol, St. Johnsbury, Plainfield, and Chittenden (which, needless to say, is not in Chittenden County).
Happy to see my county made your list.

1. Otsego
2. Monroe
3. Ontario
4. Schoharie
5. Niagara

Honorable mentions:
Herkimer (home)
Oneida
Onondaga
Erie
Delaware

For sure -- for the food and the interest. But since I moved to Columbia Heights in 2010, the neighborhood has gotten so much stuffier and sanitized. Though since the pandemic began, the city has eased some of the street vending rules, so a bit of the old flavor of the neighborhood has returned in the form of people selling pupusas, Jamaican patties, horchata, weed, flowers, and mops on the street.

Won’t look at what I did last time in order to not be influenced.  Also, politics and things that don’t affect me on a daily basis aren’t being considered … it’s purely a ranking of fondness I have for each, usually tied to good memories I’ve made with family and friends:

1. Cook, IL.  My current home and home to the best city (IMHO, of course) in the USA.  Enough said!

2. Peoria, IL.  My birthplace and somewhere I consider to be very underrated.  It has its problems, of course, but I love it for all that it is.  Relatively scenic place for Central Illinois, too, and I think that adds to its charm for me.

3. Champaign, IL.  I love this community and always have a great time visiting, whether it’s for an Illini game or when we used to stop here en route from Iowa City to Indianapolis.  The growth/improvement here since like 2014 has been astonishing, given state trends.

4. Jo Daviess, IL.  Galena holds a special place in my heart from when I was a kid.  Granted, it’s a bit more underwhelming as an adult, but I still like it.

5. Henry, IL.  Yeah, what can I say?  My parents grew up in Kewanee, and much of my extended family still lives there.  It’s a struggling town with a gutted downtown area that has lost thousands in population since my parents were my age … but when you have a sentimental attachment, you can see the “bones” and potential for what it once was.  The outskirts are surprisingly wooded/scenic, and there are a couple cool parks and such that I have fond memories of.  It kind of reminds me of a down-on-its-luck Bedford Falls, lol.  I’m foolishly optimistic for a day in the distant future where working remotely gives rise to a mini resurgence for places like this due to families wanting a small town vibe/cost of living and no longer requiring a physical job to be there.

I'll just list the counties I have fond memories of or wanted to visit when I had the best opportunity to:

1. Fairfield, CT - Yes, it's full of wealthies and suburbs. I grew up in a remote part of Sandy Hook, which is full of upper-income folks and ultimately, due in part to bad financial planning, me and my mom were priced out and forced to sell our house. The money was ultimately stolen. But Sandy Hook is a very nice town. Supposedly there's a big heroin epidemic there but I never saw any drugs. Like many CT suburbs, it is a former farming community and off my street were abandoned traintracks that I'd venture through on occasion. The streets are safe enough where you can ride a bike and not have to worry about traffic.

2. New Haven, CT - Home to Hammonasset Beach and place where I first learned to swim (at a much older age than I'm willing to admit).

3. Grafton, NH - Home to the the town of Holderness, which borders Squam Lake. The movie On Golden Pond was filmed here. My dad's side of the family owned a vacation house that we would rotate around the summers, but that ultimately became unaffordable and had to be sold. The buyers pretty much destroyed the rustic qualities of the house.

4. Rowan, NC - Home to my college which I had to drop out of due to family reasons. Some really good memories, some really bad. I wasn't that involved in the college life, but Salisbury is a nice little town.

5. Buncombe, NC - This one I haven't been to. Asheville is a fascinating hippie mountain city and I regret not jumping at the chance to visit when I could.

Not much in Virginia worth writing about for me. I would add Virginia Beach, but it's really more fun if you're a tourist than a resident. Off the beach strip is nothing but drugs, guns, crime, really bad police, and a community services board which does squat for people in a crisis. Arguably the most corrupt city in the state.

Not much good to say about Norfolk, either. The drugs are everywhere and I have lived in two sites of many local murders. Ghent is a decent neighborhood, though.

EDIT: Barnstable, MA could also replace Buncombe. I love Cape Cod and the whole ocean scene there.
