Of course, we've known about this for several weeks, but time to start a Santorum announcement thread, since this is coming up soon:

He's less controversial than Huckabee for religious conservatives at this point.

It's amazing that the guy who won IA and 10 other states and came in second behind Romney is polling so low that he may not even get into the first debate. Maybe he will get a big enough bounce out of his announcement.

Last time he benefited from the collapse of others. This time he needs Huckabee, Cruz and Carson to collapse (and hope that Perry or Jindal don't scoop up the support)

It is amazing that the man who defends rapists and pedophiles is the more likable of the two.

I didn't know that religious conservatives are soft on crime.

You just can't judge a sociopath or psychopath "safe". They know how to pull the con.

The strange thing about Rick Santorum is that he was less offensive and hateful in his 2012 campaign than he was in his twelve years in the Senate, and he's gotten progressively less inflammatory since then. Huckabee, meanwhile, is morphing into a fatter, less drugged up Rush Limbaugh.

I wonder if Hillary would give Ricky a good 06-style thrashing in Pennsylvania should he miraculously receive the nomination.

Probably. Ricky would be lucky to match McCain's 44%.

2012 could have deluded him into thinking he is the "next in line". He's not BTW, just like 2008 didn't make Huckabee next in line in 2012 instead of Romney.

I am actually pretty involved in Republican politics (no, I am not an elected politician), and I got to go to a town hall with him in February at CPAC and talk to him for maybe a minute after, and he seems like he would not be inflammatory at all this time around.  Even when asked about how to protect the right to life, he gave an answer that I still have recorded on my phone basically saying that the best way is to treat everybody with compassion.

The only potential jab or anything like that was when he said that he would have won the general election in 2012 had he been nominated over Romney.  I have yet to decide who I will support in the primaries and probably won't for at least a few more months, but I could easily get behind Santorum's campaign.

Quite frankly, I have always found Santorum charming and mellow. He has the potential to be a good candidate as a pro-life warrior and populist Repub.

Very much so. We need someone in there who understands what is happening in the decay of our country and has the will to reverse as much as he could. It's not just about positions, it's about passion and vigor. Santorum could be that candidate if the addicted-to-RINO establishment doesn't tear him apart like last time.

How is Rick Santorum a true Republican (a fake distinction, obviously) yet Mitt Romney is a "RINO"?

Well, think of America like an apple pie. Got it? Okay. Now cut that apple pie into 3 pieces? Got it? Okay. Now Think of Rick Santorum. Got it? Okay. Well, you have now found out the meaning of a Santorum.
