A lot of the Irish might not want NI at this point, due to the economic disparity.
Which, if anything, Brexit will make worse. What a vicious cycle.

Wow, sad that you are gleeful over the prospect of the return of the Troubles.  That would no doubt lead to thousands of deaths! Tread lightly.

The EU will go into the same trash heap as the League of Nations.  Total failure!

Yeah, and when the League of Nations failed, everyone lived happily thereafter.

It was a failed project, which needed to be scrapped so that something better could be built in its stead.

And the world enjoyed the scrapping process immensely.

It's the end result that counts.

So, I trust, you are a firm supporter of the UN.

Congratulations to all those who are no doubt delighted: Putin shills, PRC bots, trots, fascists, Nazis, reprobates, people who plan on being dead in the next year, anti-Semites etc

LOL!

Rrrrrrrule Britannia!

I dislike the idea someone like you who despises our country is singing Rule Britainia.

So? I really dont care what you think. I will sing it again. I learned the text at school, I also learned 'Land of Hope and Glory'. It were the english that fought at Arnhem, that liberated our country. I've always admired the country for its love of freedom and independence.

The dutch and the english had their differences in the past, but right now this referendum gives me and so many people in the Netherlands real hope that democracy isn't completely dead yet.

Because you want to see the UK fail (as for your support of this nights fruitless suicide), I highly doubt you care about this country at all.
Oh, come on, CrabCake. You know it's not this simple. People like DutchConservative and I, and, more importantly, many Britons, do care about your country. Some concerns about the EU are illegitimate, but many qualms to stay are. Let's not oversimplify this issue. There are "Little Englander" racists, but most Brexit voters are reasonable people who simply disagree with the Remain arguments, sometimes with arguments you yourself would agree with too.

The EU is an absurd organisation, but I'm more agitated by the overall atmosphere of the vote. And I should emphasise I'm not too concerned about the Leave voters, it's the Leave campaign. I know and am related to Leave voters.

The two defining features of the Leave campaign has been a hostility to intellectualism and a sectarian mindset where Briton is set against Briton.  They exploited the righteous anger of the working class and have funneled it into the same protectionist, nationalistic garbage that has never ever served humanity well.

The fact is, these traits are now normalised and indeed encouraged by the win. You can bet any ambitious politician is peering at that sordid affair and plotting his own way to exploit such toxic results.

Btw, Brum voting that way should at least shut up certain racist types. Certain minorities cannot have been overwhelmingly Remain if...

Should, but won't.

The Troubles are extremely likely at this point irrespective of what happens. Referendum might be the least bloody way out. Or do you really think people in Ulster will go for the reimposed frontier controls with the Republic?

Isn't the whole reason for the existence of this referendum the fact that Cameron saw it as an effective way to stop Tory voters from defecting to UKIP in the 2015 election?

More about party management: the Europe issue has been utterly toxic for the Tories since the 90s and the promise of a referendum if the Tories won a majority was his way of putting the genie in the bottle.

I think it's mainly UKIP's rapid rise in the polls in the 2010-15 parliament. Cameron was scared the Tories would lose a couple of dozen seats in the south because of it so offered the referendum to ward that danger off.

And, now, quickly, in a short paragraph, please tell me what exactly is the difference between LoN and the UN which makes you despise the former and adore the latter. Please no google and no wiki.

ALL AREAS OF SCOTLAND VOTE REMAIN
Scotland: Remain 1,617,327 (62.3%); Leave 979,519 (37.7%)

@Liam_O_Hare: Alex Salmond on ITV predicts a second Scottish independence referendum within two years (before a Brexit is finalised).

Perhaps this will make people reluctant to support multinational superstates in the future.

Unfortunately, people seem unwilling to learn from history,

The League of Nations was a multilateral superstate, I am ballet dancer, and elephant is an insect.

Sometimes, image is more important than content.

This Irish Reunification referendum will not happen, and even if it did I suspect it wouldn't pass.

Those of you calling for an Irish Referendum don't know what you're asking for.  There will be death, and lots of it.  It's not something that most of the Northern Irish wish to revisit right now.  Leave it alone.
